I know it's tongue and cheek but please don't try and compare the two. I get what you're trying to say but you give some of the Aussies on here any more ammo to talk pish and they'll use it.

Look, I want to buy those players as much as you do, but for now it seems like loans are the only thing happening while we still have deadwood. With regards to Souza, we all saw on the graphs how much he stood out in Europe. If there’s another deep lying mid with those figures, available and in our price range? I’m not sure there is, so it appears as though they’d rather a deep lying play maker who still does defensive numbers to what’s available in the DM role.

With regards to the Aus v Peru game, yeah it was a cagey affair, games like those always are bang average because nobody wants to make a mistake. I get why you go meh, but in perspective, he was keeping the pace of the game down because he needed to go 120 minutes and had played something like 90 minutes in the last 3-4 months.

I’m sure that you’d note that most of the good attacking moves came from him starting them. Also he was always heading off players in defence. Got turned once because he was trying to be a bit clever. The rest he strolled because he needs to get back up to fitness granted.

He played 8 at Huddersfield in a 4231, at Brighton I think he played in a 433, in any of the 3 midfield. He sometimes played as a 10 in the national team when Rogic was out.

The fact barely any of us were bigging up McGree but are going in for Mooy should say something to the usual pantywetters.

Tbf mate obviously joking about lubo I get people totally * off with signing s like Barkas, Ajeti and McCarthy but I just don’t get how people get * off with a new signing before giving them a proper chance, even last season kyogo came on for 15 minutes v hearts first game of the season, people saying on here “ he’s not good enough to lightweight no suited to the Scottish game, starfelt was a total dud and a bomb scare after first 4 games, even had a few saying now idegucchi should be binned after he basically get injured in his first game and being deemed not good enough by people on here for playing a half each in 2 kick about s, may end up being right with some but ffs give the guy’s a chance to prove themselves on the pitch for at least a few months before aw the harsh judgment s

It seems we were willing to pay £7m for Souza though and one of the sticking points was the fact that the City group didn't want to sell him. So, the money is there and I'd rather we spent it. Michut is relatively unknown, I think we can agree on that but certainly Vera has shown good qualities and both Mooy/Vera had similar figures. I still would prefer to go with someone younger who has the potential to net the club a few extra million in a couple of years time.

On the game with Peru. That's absolutely fine if there hadn't been a barrage of replies about how amazing he was in the game. Not specifically saying you, even though you mentioned the game but you would genuinely have thought we were watching a Zidane vs Brazil performance from 2006 the way some of the guys on here were going on.

As I said, he certainly played fine. He didn't really do much wrong and he looked tidy enough when he had the ball. Seemed to always try and play the ball forward when he could. In a better team, he could have been more effective. Ironically, had he been playing for Peru, I think they would have walked it. They seemed to lack a player in the middle of the park to get the ball forward quickly and effectively, which Mooy seemed to do on occasion.

It just doesn't change the fact that he won't dislodge McGregor from his natural role at the moment and it's a stop gap signing. We now lack more presence in the midfield without Bitton and Rogic certainly had some form of strength, albeit not a DM type, which worries me.

Can’t believe the amount of people calling Mooy a ‘top player’, even some going as far to compare him to Lubo.

Obviously he was top drawer in Football Manager or FIFA at some point, as he’s always had a weird cult following during his career as an EPL cannon fodder journeyman.

If he’s here to provide cover then it’s a so-so signing. If he’s our final midfield signing then it’s proper grim and fair to say we’d be weaker in the middle than last year.

Again, completely different time. I was happy to bring in McGree in January because we still desperately needed midfielders. We now need specific midfielders, like a physical defensive midfielder and Mooy isn't that.

What’s Souza got to do with the price of cheese?

I commented on your statistical analysis of a “cupla tackes and an interception every EPL game” equating to that of being “fantastic at breaking up play” - 3x moments in a single game (regardless of level) sounds about as far from “fantastic” as you can get for someone as good as you claim to be.

That’s not to say I’m knocking Mooy in any shape or form, but it was your point I’m questioning…

I'm speaking about the fact that us Aussies were not bigging up McGree but are now going in for Mooy, just as we did for Ange, is because we truly believe he's Celtic quality.

One thing I will say, is I've seen the point of "It's either McGregor or Mooy" a few times now, which I don't think will be the case. I'd still much, much prefer somebody else over Mooy, but if he does come in, I suspect McGregor will be moved further up the pitch, with Mooy settling in to McGregor's old position alongside one of Hatate/O'Riley/Turnbull.

Again, not advocating for Mooy, but some thoughts.

Mate the lubo comparison was tongue in cheek in reference to his age, think everyone on here knows he’s a totally different player from lubo

In another thread, someone has referred to him as ‘virtually unbeatable’.

Apologies, but it’s hard to decipher what’s tongue in cheek with Mooy, as he has an incredibly fanatical and strange cult following.

No, he really doesn't, just a few people who actually have seen him play recounting what they seen against the claims made by Transfermarkt experts.

    My thoughts as well.

Even though it’s not one that excites me too much.

Ange record in the market, with players he’s identified, has been unreal so no reason to doubt his judgement at all as things stand.

I think if we already had Souza in for DM and signed Mooy then the mood would be a lot more positive towards the deal. As I think most believe this now means we won’t get a DM.

If we sign a defensive midfielder, it absolutely will change my mind on this transfer. It's a stop gap signing to give McGregor a rest and we can play him in some cup games etc.

I do think this could be the lot for midfield though.
