    its all about money mate.
If we had enough we would have a better team and be able to compete
sadly that's not the case and we will never compete with the big teams in the premiership unless we were there

    Acceptable by what standards?

By the standards of the greatest European sides we have had (67, 70, 03 etc), then yeah i guess we're underacheiving.

But realistically we're doing okay. Look at the finances we have, are we underacheiving on this budget? No - absolutely not.

I would say it is not

I do not accept any defeatist attitude when it comes to complaining about leagues, money etc.

Celtic being run improperly is all too frequent, it nearly cost us our status in the 90's and had it not been for ordinary celtic fans plus important business ones in mr mccann and mr dempsey we would have gone. We should have woken up then to the fact that football was becoming a fast moving business and people within the club from then on should have made strides to put ourselves in a position of power taking into consideration our worldwide support. The most difficult element to achieve of all has and always will be in place with the fans and is the envy of every club in the world so we should use it properly ! We clearly over spent under o neil and celtic have been paying the price since again because there was obviously no thinking behind it. It is all very well saying the current board are improving things, reducing debt etc but there has to be a quick viable plan for us to play catch up now utilising our fan base. I ask the question why ? because currently its like a merry go round ! We need to have more open honest discussion between the board and the fans to establish our plans as we are in this together !

I am not being hasty before you judge this, be honest with yourself in comparison to where celtic need and merit being with the size of club they are.

Out of the current crop of players i would keep.

    Boruc
    Caldwell (arguably squad player)
    Mcmanus ( squad player)
    Crosas (potential)
    Mcgeady
    maloney
    mcdonald
    samaras (potential)

not many eh, not many of the current group would get into squads of the top 16 in europe.....be honest

listen mate i would have said these two as well but i think we have seen the best of them already if your honest. for jan it would be best for us to get some cash back while he is still worth something and before he gets a long term injury ! I so wish nakamura had some of these attributes.......in fighting spirit, energy, strength or pace. If he did he would be a ridicilously good player but unfortunatley people seem all too happy to accept flashes of brilliance now and again just to remind he was actually on the pitch. In comparison a similiar to lubo but i would far rather have lubo in my team when the going got tough !

Potential consequences of the Aalborg loss

I have a suspicion that the defeat to Aalborg might be one of those events in football that will have significant and direct consequences. Of course we will know only in hindsight, but neverthe less I think it quite possible that the defeat to the Danes might be the catalyst for the following:

    1) Naka and Boruc (and Celtic) might finally decide, without the lure of European football, that January 2009 is the right time to leave

    2) WGS might decide that, in the absence of a significant and unlikely cash infusion, he has taken the team as far as he can.

    3) Free from the task and fatigue of playing European midweek matches, Celtic win their four in a row. In an ironic twist, our defeat could be the worse news for the Huns and for Uncle Walter.

    4) A wealthy and generous individual might realize the financial constraints of our club and step forward with a very large investment.

    Any other potential fallout?

    Number 3 will happen.

Financially, it isnt a huge set back as some of the negetive brigade would like people to think it is. As I said in another thread, staying in Europe had a high possibility of chasing a white elephant.

    http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/800175-post22.html

I said this last week without clouded judgement and I stand by it.

As disappointing as going out of Europe is, its the furthest thing from the end of the world. We'll be back next year and hopefully we'll have learned from our failings as a team.

Anyone up for a domestic treble??

Yep, Nakamura & Samaras missed SITTERS.

The players must take full responsibility for this result, not management. The team was set out right, the right tactics were used. Our top scorer and our best technical player couldnt hit the broad side of a barn.

Bitter taste in my mouth would be fixed by a 4 in a row though, a domestic treble would make my summer...

We now have a clear calender to do it too...

Why do some people fall apart completely when we loose? Everytime, its the end of the world stuff, crazy people!

    What the *?

I have seen some things in my time.........I've seen Celtic win games they had no right to win.....and I've seen us lose some games we should have won. But tonight for me was unbelievable! We were the better team...we should have won that game tonight. I can't believe how unlucky those two goals were! What is it going to take for us to win away in Europe? Incredible!!! HAIL HAIL :31:
