Deila might be passionate and offensive-minded, but he's not stupid.

He adjusts his team as the game progresses. Against Barcelona etc, he will most likely push his team back a little more than usual, and aim for quick counters.

I think the Celtic players can expect to run a lot more though. Because if Deila is going to opt for the counter-attacking option, then he wants as many players as possible to join in on the attack. Having lots of passing options and overlapping runs is essential for his football. This is another aspect of his game that makes the Klopp-comparison more valid.

The guy did say nice attacking football at home for our own fans.
He is not stupid he is not going to go away in the CL and play 3 up front and go * * for leather.
People are reading to much into playing an attacking style you can use it for some games and not for other games.

This is a very important point.

In 2010 and 2011 everybody knew Strømsgodset played lovely football, but they were stuck in mid-table because they were overly naive away from home. I think they scored three or four away wins each year in those seasons. In 2012 Deila modified his game plan, and among other things signed the 2 m tall striker Peter Kovacs to act as a target man. He functions as a target man away and as a tap-in man at home. With that, as well as some more modifications to make his style of play slightly more cynical while still keeping it entertaining, developing and progressive, the team suddenly finished 2nd in 2012 and won the league last year. He *will* focus on developing the passing play first, but hopefully he will bring in that element of cynicism in Europe and in some of the less charming grounds of the SPL from the start.

:35:Now I'm more optimistic. Just the right modification for the weather troubles and parked buses in this league, and any opponent who's too strong at the passing game to be beaten in the standard Deila fashion.

Does Deila insist that his goalkeeper be able to pass the ball well, or is saving shots the most important thing? I would hope he'd want to keep Forster around, despite his bad kicking.

When people say 4-3-3 these days it really means one out and out striker and 2 forward type players.

He could play Commons - Griffiths - Stokes in such a formation. But yeah I'd like to see another attacking player signed too.

No, we had strikers like that in the Norwegian NT because Drillo managed the team for a total of 14 years and he viewed the Norwegian player pool as lacking in technical ability and that humping it to a Carew type would be the best chance to beat technically superior opponents. * all to do with weather.

I think he will set up his team away from home in europe in the mold of a solid hardworking team who hunt in packs like the way Barca, Munich, Porto, Athletico, do. They work hard off the ball to retain posession and thats what we have lacked in europe. Its very noticable at times that our players when playing teams who shift the ball fast and retain posession we look sluggish and slow as in a few yards short in explosive pace or that sheer eagerness to win the ball back. i think he will install that into our team and we can expect to hit teams on the break with more an accurate tempo,
think of playing like we did in the San SIRO all the time against teams like benfica cska, shaktar, fenerbache, ect, and think of playing a better transition from defence to counter attack against the barca, madri, but adding that high off the ball work ethic as well.
Its clear to see celtic are trying to improve in europe and lets be fair we aint going to bring world class players in. so work with what you have in your squad and youths and mould them to play as a solid robust team just like the germans :)

Honestly can't see many signings happening unless we loose a few. Out of curiousity where would you want to see strengthened giving Deila's tactics?

On another note, I've been quite impressed by the godset fans over all this been sound as. Might start paying a bit more attention to the Tippeligaen. :icon_mrgreen:

I know he likes to play attacking football and that excites me and fits with this club, however what about when he is more up against it? Does he have a plan B so to speak?

I only ask as we are not always going to be the team on top, I'm mainly talking about in europe here.

    EDIT:

JUST noticed you have already answered that question, cheers:56:

It depends how he wants to play it though. If he plays with two out and out wingers then a fit Boerrigter would fit right into that, same with Forrest. However if we are going to go down that road we would be as well shipping out 2 or more strikers as they wont be playing.

Does he rotate his team by choice?
