As much as the video has good sentiment to it, I don't agree that bigotry is disappearing with each generation. Majority of hun idiots I see are in their late teens or 20-30, young uns' try to play upto the big boys which is why I think bigotry won't go away in a hurry.

I have alot of friends that are Rangers fans, some of them are good guys but some are also your typical Rangers fan, spouting the usual bile.

I don't think it's all one sided, we have our fair share of idiots but it is clearly a bigger problem in the blue side of the city.

    RIP Tommy.

All good deeds start with good sentiments mate. We just need more people to have the good sentiments.

I know one thing though, it's quite unrealistic to ever expect the sectarian element of the Old Firm rivalry to go away while these stupid marches are allowed to go on all over the west coast of Scotland. In my opinion these events attract some of the wrong type of people(not ALL people who go to them are bad obviously) and are magnets for trouble and hatred. Marches should be banned and I mean both sets. How can we expect people to stop singing certain songs when we allow them to openly march through town/city centres parading their bigoted beliefs and generally rubbing people's noses in it? Crazy.

As most of you have said the rangers has supports who are there just for the football, not for the violence and not for the sectarism and are just all round top people, whilst they also have fans who are anti catholic and insult everything we love celtic for. When fans make comments such as "unless you are pro union and anti catholic you are not a real Rangers fan" (pulled from a rangers forum) you cant help but feel negatively towards the club and its fans. The saying a few spoil it for the many sort of applies though its more than a few. I hate the rangers, the players and the supporters, but if i had a great mate, or meet someone who was a rangers fan and is a great person i wouldnt hold my feelings towards to rangers against them, but they wouldnt change my feelings towards the club. It seems the majority of people on here who dont have friends who a rangers supports and are also top blokes, cant seem to grasp the idea that some of the fans are.

The difference is that huns genuinely hate us. I dont hate huns, i hate their political views. They have no respect for the under privileged in society. In the North they would vote as a reactionary response to the nationalist vote. Cutting their nose to spite their face. Even working class huns would rather vote for a unionist rather than a candidate working on a social reform agenda in their own community. Madness. Let them stew in the racist * they have created for themselves while the rest of the world moves on and leaves them behind. So McCoist and NoSurname were pallbearers at TBs funeral? Nice enough gesture but they can start by getting the thousands at Ibrox to stop wading in * blood, the same blood that was flowing through Tommys veins.

Yeah I'm sure all the worst element of the Rangers support will have plenty to say today. I agree with you when you say it makes you angry and sad because it makes me feel the same way. * Sunday was a travesty and anyone who takes genuine delight in it or thinks that those people got what they deserved is not right in the head.

    But that's another thread..........

As Celtic fans I suppose all we can do is observe how these fools behave, try and educate them wherever possible and try and be more tolerant ourselves. At least then we can look ourselves in the mirror and know that we don't reduce ourselves to the level of the worst element of the Huns support.

A very good post but one little comment. Please don't take it the wrong way. The video is inspiring and if it has affected you positively Markybhoy please consider revising your background on your posts to remove the religious link to Celtic. There is nothing wrong with being a good catholic but should it really be strongly linked to Celtic. If we want to get rid of the bigotry we need to start it by being first to remove the influence of religion from the game.No criticism intended of you personally, just a suggestion.
I hate Rangers because they are Rangers, not because they are associated with the Protestants or orange order.
Be a good Celtic man first.:86

Disagree why hate a football team for being a team, that makes no sense. I am an Irish Catholic and i am proud of my background. I am also proud that Celtic was founded to help my ancestors settle in a new country after severe hardship. I am not ashamed of my history, nationality, or religion.

Regarding Rangers: I hate sectarian, racist, fascists. They have a long history of hatred against my ethnic make up. Ask them they celebrate it like it is something to be proud of. But you see i dont hate a football team, i hate what that football team represents. Ask yourself what does rfc represent and then ask yourself if Irish Catholics should not be offended by the bile that is spouted from ibrox.

fair points, however I am not 100% sure that Celtic was founded specifically to look after Irish catholics but more as a charitable foundation to help all poor people in the Glasgow and surrounding area however as I said I can be corrected on that.
Nobody should be ashamed of relgion, history or nationality.
You are right in that all decent people should be offended by whatever spews out of Ibrox or any other venue for that matter but we (our bigots) can be just as guilty.
I am saying these bigots need the oxygen of recognition. If we can choke that off by rising above them we may eventually get rid of most of it from the football grounds.
    Who knows?

There is a historical link between foundation of our club and the catholic church. Now we are not a catholic club. We are a club that is inclusive to all, being anti sectarian is part of the reason why we are so special and part of the reason why we do not have a win/yang relationship with scotlands shame. The title of this thread is a lesson to us all. I take offense to being given a lesson in anti sectarianism from rfc for reasons stated earlier. Dont forget that McCoist is the same man giving Lafferty advice from the touchline about going in with two feet against us. No more guilt by association let rangers continue with their bullshit and we will continue to abide to our anti racist, anti sectarian and anti facist creed. I also think we should actively promote our inclusive policies.

So much of bigotry is based in ignorance. I remember several months back having a conversation with a Rangers fan in the pub that was a real eye opener to me.

It all started off about the football of course but gradually as the conversation went on the other aspects of the rivalry began to come to the surface and be discussed(amicably I might add). Anyway, this guy then left me agog by declaring that one of the things he hated most about Celtic was their 'sectarian signing policy'! Yes that's right folks, you did not read that wrong and I did not hear it wrong, this guy actually BELIEVED that it was Celtic who had refused to buy Protestants in the past and not the other way round. I think he made the comment that Henrik Larsson was the first Protestant player we'd had :56:

My point is, if there are people out there in the world who actually believe this stuff then it's probably no wonder they hate our club. I know that the past recruitment policy of Rangers is one of the things I find most despicable about that club. One can only wonder at some of the myths and downright lies that Rangers fans who have sons and daughters pass on to their kids about our club. We must continue to point out our club's proud history and it's non-sectarian traditions in order that people will know the truth.

Steve’s ink-ling to help ill boy

    Published: 15/06/2010

SPONSORSHIP: Steve Findlater with Riley Murray.

    More Pictures

A CELTIC supporter will risk the wrath of fellow fans by getting a Rangers tattoo for charity.
Steve Findlater, of Montrose, wants the Rangers logo on his right arm to raise money for his friends’ son, who has Cerebral Palsy.
The offshore worker was inspired by Dale and Trudy Murray’s son, Riley, and wanted to do something to help with the costs of his care.
“He’s such an amazing little kid. As I’m tattoo and Celtic daft, I thought of getting sponsored to get a Rangers tattoo.”
Mr Findlater has helped Riley in the past, raising more than £1,000 with a sponsored bike ride. However, his latest idea has come as a shock to most of his friends.
“Most of my Celtic pals think I’m off my head but they also say it is an amazing thing to do,” he said. “My Rangers pals have been very generous and overall I’ve had some very nice messages.”

    get a grip

helping out a worthy charity is far more important than a football rivalry, especially when it's someone he knows
