Forgive me for believing the left wing press, but I was sure I had read of the U.S Army deliberately targeting areas with high unemployment.

In fact some have called it a kind of draft by underhand means.

 

Well said. Thats a good socialist analysis of the situtation. I have noticed that a lot of US soldiers seem to be from the south.

 

They target everyone from what I see. I live in a upper middle class area and my high school had recruiters in it maybe once a week.

Just an option many poorer people have to take for a degree from a university not really to do with unemployment.

 

How do they get a degree?

I thought the funding systems in place meant that unless you were an exceptional high school student, the burden of paying for college lay squarely with parents.

 

They pay for your education. The entire education.


And no... You can apply for government grants if your poor. Or anyone can apply for low interest loans for universities.

Scholarships is the ones for exceptional students and those are offered by individuals, corporations, universities, trusts etc etc.

Fair enough. I'm not judging this based purely on America, I think the Army in most countries has often been an easy way to get people off the dole.
