OK then, lets take away his goals in friendly games and look at his performances in the Campeonato Paulista. From 1957 to 1965 he scored more goals then he played games. Some stand out seasons being 1958 (58 in 38), 1961 (47 in 26) and 1965 season (49 in 30). That is an amazing record, very few have been so consistent over such a lengthy period of time in league football.

If you want to keep friendlies out of it we can still keep adding up the goals, using goals from the inter-state championships of the Torneio Rio – São Paulo, Taça de Prata, Taça Brasil and from 1971 onward the Brasileirão and the NASL. Add it all together and he has got 656 goals in 702 games, a world record for league goals. How overrated

    Viva o Rei do futebol!

And yet, Messi scored more goals in a single year than he ever did - and in a much better league and against a better standard of players as well.
Pele was great - but he doesn't come close to the top 5 players of all time.

But I can see you're a big South American buff so i'll leave you to it.

We can just agree to agree that i'm right :50:

I think Messi has a good shot of becoming the greatest ever, I'm sure I've said that before here. But he has a long way to go. He has to do that every season, like Pelé did for near enough a decade on every stage.

Plus I think you might be the only person in the world who doesn't rate Pelé in their personal 'Top 3'.

We can all see your wrong :icon_mrgreen:

I'm away to get my World Cup on. Obrigado.

You really have to improve your comprehension skills.
I never said South American players are *, like you're incorrectly and unsuccessfully attempting to infer. I said their club teams have always been worse than European ones and that the best South American players have always gone to Europe - so whop bam booble you've just proved my point by bringing up Leo.

Back to school for you. :bbpd:

I highly doubt that. I know a great many people who see him for the egotistical overrated man that he is. He couldn't scratch Maradona's balls.

But I proved you wrong on that a couple of posts back on this. That is obviously bullshite.

A while a go the president of Brazil's newest state, Tocantins got a debate in parliament going with the aim of making the Brazilian national team select only Brazilian based footballers again. The idiot must have fixed all of Tocantins problems to come out with so much crap, but it shows that stupid nationalists want to old futebol brasileiro 'back' and that things haven't as you suggest been this way.

Maybe with the real becoming stronger things won't this way much longer... but that is a big "if".

There is a saying in Brazil. "That Pelé's brilliance on the pitch is only matched by his stupidity off it". It could be true, he recently told the protesters (I'm paraphrasing here) to go home and be nice to each other and that will get results. The fool :smiley-laughing002:

That doesn't mean he isn't the greatest footballer ever. "He's egotistical", good for him, I'd be to if I was as good as he was.
