    Id say

Puskas and Di Stefano (about 1958-61)
    Beckenbauer and Muller (about 1972)
Gullit and Van Basten (about 1987-1989)
    Ronaldo and Zidane (about 2001-2003)
    Ronaldinho and Kaka (about 2005-2006)
Messi, Xavi and Iniesta (about 2010/2011)

Zidane and Ronaldo at Real definitely. Also you could say maybe Ronaldinho and Ronaldo in the Brazil squad together?

I know its not all about the goals, but Cristiano Ronaldo was scoring for fun at that point, and the season ILoveTheCeltic was talking about he got as many as messi.

Doesn't matter, they still had2-3 of the best players in the world at that time.

Ronaldo '02 World Player of the Year (WPY)
    Zidane '03 WPY

Figo was in there somewhere aswell, however his award is debatable:icon_mrgreen: - overrated IMO.

Aye, at that point Messi,Xavi and Iniesta collectively and individually were destroying everything in there path. Ronaldo is an insane goalscorer but I've never saw something like they 3 together or anything like how Xavi controls a game. I would rank Ronaldo, Xavi and Iniesta even at that point, with Messi ahead of them all.

Like I said, it is debatle, I'm not really disagreeing with either of you :56:

Never have the two best players in the world simultaneously been in a Celtic team.

okay so I * up with Fergus but surely when we won the EC we must have had world class players? Especially as back in those days winning the European Cup meant you genuinely were the best, in subsequent years we have seen people "fake" it to some degree - Chelsea weren't the best team in 2012 and Liverpool weren't the best in '05 for example.

But back in the 60s Europe was the only good footballing continent. Football in Africa, Asia and North America was basically nonexistant and South American club teams were, as now, * as all the best players were in Europe.

I think everyone, even huns back then, regarded Jinky as top, top draw, but he couldn't have been the only one? Especially as the Inter team we beat were supposed to be all-conquering at that point.

Anyway here's an undeniable one - this current Bayern Munich team.
Dante, Ribery, Muller & Robben are all unquestionably world class. Neuer could well be added to that list. Maybe Schweinsteiger? I think Thiago and Gotze are just too young to have that accolade.

On the subject of McGrain we arguably had 2 of the best in their positions in the team at one point, from 75-77 you could say McGrain and Dalglish were two of the best.

World XI around that time would been something like...

GK Zoff or Shilton or Maier
    RB Vogts or McGrain
    CH Beckenbauer
    CH Krol
    LB Breitner
CM 2 from Neeskens, Haan, Netzer and Bonhof
    + Platini and Cruyff

Then the remaining two positions would be out Dalglish, Keegan, Muller and Resenbrink.

In 2010 the 2 best footballers in the World were Messi and Iniesta. Proven by the fact they were voted as such by their peers.

    Romario and Stoitchkov in 1994
George Weah and Paolo Maldini in 1995
Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos in 1997
    Zidane and Henry in 2003
    Cannavaro and Zidane in 2006

All up for debate but it does appear to occur if you have 2 of the best players in the World in the one team you are going to be successful.
