It's time to pick up on our monthly Movie Rankdown.
And while there are still a few genres that have not been covered yet, after the response to tho 2010's and Golden Age Rankdown, thought it would be cool to stick with that sort of theme for now, and take a trip back to an era of change, not just in society and culture in general, politics, music, football, fashions, science and for our purposes, cinema.
For this Rankdown, we will be exploring and celebrating the movies that were released between January 1 1960 & Dec 31 1969.
This includes any film that was released, irrespective of genre or origin.
So it doesn't matter if it was Hollywood or anywhere else in the world. So long as it was released throughout the 1960's.
In cinema terms, it was such an era of change, with the end of the 'Golden Age' in 1963 (or '66 depending on dating the end of the 'studio system' and those reforms or the final end of the 'Production Code).
This, along with techincal advancements and a growing understanding and study of 50 years of film making experience, is why perhaps more than any other decade, the films from the early part of this decade look and feel distinctly different from those by decade's end.
So, as always this first week will be all about nominating your favourite films of any genre that fit the criteria.
Then once the nominations have been compiled, people will then be invited to vote/submit rankings based on all the films that have been nominated.
Nominations close Sunday 5pm @ 19 September.
The window for Rankings then will open when the compiled Nominations have been posted.
Ranking Window will then close on Sunday 26 September.
To recap:
As always, this is open to all and everyone is welcome to contribute and have their 2 pence worth.
- Any film, regardless of origin or genre, released during the 1960s.
- Between now and Sunday 19 September, nominate as many films as you like that fit the criteria.
- The films that were nominated in the last Rankdown that were from the 1960's will be included automatically, and I will post a list of those after this intro.
Will tag the usual suspects and some others as well shortly.
Discuss 1960's Movies Rankdown in the TalkCeltic Pub area at TalkCeltic.net.
