For me you could really see his influence in the Scotland game midweek. First half performance he bossed the midfield, and we more than matched England. Second half we lost his fight, got overrun and ultimately played pretty poorly. Terrific player, great captain for club and country and contributes so much to the team, both on and off the park.

Natural born leader, the team look completely lost when he's not playing!

Scott Brown is, at best, a reasonably good footballer and the dearth of quality currently in our squad perversely makes him stand out as our best player. That says it all about Celyic in 2014

If he was any kind of a top player we would have received offers for him that the board would have accepted like they did for Forster (Craig Gordon is a better keeper) big Victor, Joe Ledley, Hoops et al over the last few years

He has found his comfort zone and is paid handsomely for it, he is also captain and can't speak properly in an interview

£4.4 million plus all those wages and asking if he was worth it?

I guess in today's low level low expectation mind numbing blind acceptance of downright bland mediocrity and low class currently emanating at all levels at the club then, aye fill yer boots, he's a genius!!

:56: He's definitely been worth it, as seen in early season when we were terrible without him.

Aye? Who did we sell Henrik Larsson to at the peak of his powers?

    4.4 million

    26 grand a week

He's probably in reality cost the club about 10 million including wages

Is he worth that ? No

Are you honestly comparing Brown to Larsson?

I wouldn't let Scott Brown clean his boots

    Aye? :56:

You've still not answered the question, who did we sell Larsson to? By your logic if he was any good we'd have sold him.

    Or...........
When clubs speak to broony agent and asks if he would be interested in a move the agent tells them.....he is happy and no matter the offer he wants to stay at celtic.

When players stay they are * and when players leave the board forced them.......:31:

What more does the man to do to convince people he is a decent player? He isn't great, aye, but very few are in reality when you compare what they offer to the team to the money they earn for it. What Brown is is a decent midfielder who is more than good enough to cope and occasionally star in international and Champions League football. He's more than good enough to star in Scotland, which, lets be honest, is our level until/unless we gain access to a greater media-funded market (e.g.a Euro Superleague). He is also a great captain and likely future coach/manager here or elsewhere; and for those who doubt that, read some of the comments attributed to the likes of Strachan/Lennon about him. And given the success we have had with more established players like Graveson and Jirisik for similar money, I'd say yes, he has been value for money in today's world.

The difference is that all of those players WANTED to leave (and made it well known) because, unfortunately, they felt they had outgrown the environment in which we play the game. They also went for significantly less than we valued them at the time, because of the fact they played in Scotland and they wouldn't sign a new contract. Clubs knew that and took advantage, often to the detriment of the players. For instance Hooper is little more than your average Championship striker now.

In contrast, Brown is not Ledley/Hooper and would rather play for a club our size than someone like Crystal Palace/Norwich for more money but fewer accolades. Personally I admire that and feel it marks out why he is so important to this team, because if he wanted to go he could have and he would have attracted a decent team to go to, such as Everton/Newcastle. If he had wanted to leave he could have demanded it and then we would have seen offers because clubs wouldn't have had to pay as much for player of his drive and quality.

Sounds like Wayne Rooney. Presumably you wouldn't want somebody of his quality either? And before you say it I am not comparing Brown and Rooney in terms of quality, I am simply stating that your arguments against Brown are actually quite misguided.

We live in a world where players like Wayne Rooney - a great player but not world class - earns £300,000 a week. Bruisers like Lee Cattermole are on more than £30,000 per week and Joe Ledley would rather play for Crystal Palace in a relegation dogfight than for a club like us.

We live in a world where Luke Shaw is apparently £20 million plus better than Andy Robertson in terms of transfer fees. However, anyone with a brain can see that they are both exceptional talents and there is not much between them other than where they were initially trained.

In money terms, £4.4 million for a player like Brown IS good business and even with wages it still is because of the drive he seems to give us. Without him our team is pedestrian because too many footballers who may be more talented lack the heart to be as successful; and I would dread to think where we would be right now if we didn't have him playing in our midfield.

He keeps our midfield ticking and has matured as a player. Keeps his temper at bay. Scotland captain as well as our captain and he clearly loves both roles and our club.

    More than worth it.

    I love the guy.

He used to take a * of alot of stick from a good bit of the support but I always liked his attitude and desire. He is the last player I got the name of on the back of my kit, the bumblebee from 09:56:

Brilliant captain and when he isn't in the side only then can you really appreciate what he brings to the table.
