Swimming is quality exercise. Well done for not giving up on exercise despite the leg issues

I was on a fasting programme for last couple of months and its made a massive difference. I didnt eat until 11 and stop eating at 6pm. And every other week I will try one 24 hour fast. Dropped from around 16.7 to 15st.

Im not letting it get in the way of life so if I have a reason not to do it one particular day I wont. But even 6 of 7 days makes a massive difference. I stopped for holidays for a couple of weeks but need to get back on it tomorrow. First few days were hardest so going to be a struggle but will try my best

Sween I actually came to this thread to ask about the intermittent fasting and low and behold your last post is about this. Could you give me more information cause seriously considering doing this myself. I also want to try the discipline side of things as well as well as losing weight/healthier lifestyle.

Yeah. So rules are simple. You only eat for an 8 hour period, so a 16 hour fast. It suits me to eat between 11am-6pm but you can tweak the hours to suit. You can drink black coffee, tea, and water during fasting hours and nothing else.

Orher than that, try to make sure the first meal you have to break the fast is healthy and thats it. I also managed a couple of 24 hour fasts I did one a week. I wasn't super strict about what I ate during eating hours but my stomach shrunk and I lost the cravings to eat as much junk.

First few days are tough. Felt a bit dizzy and sore head, but after that its amazing how quickly your body adapts to a new normal. And its not the lack of food causing those initial feelings, its just your body coming off all the general * you are used to eating.

You feel much better quickly. Sharper mentally and physically. I did struggle to go to gym and fast - some people manage it but I thought it was tough. So on gym days I would sometimes break the fast but only to have enough energy to exercise.

That said, over hols I came off it and I did add weight back. Was about 1.5 st down and now about 1 st down. Going back on it on monday when Im back at work.

Definitely give it a go. It works, and if you get over the first few days it goes get easier. If it helps I will write some notes as I start on Monday? It might help you and will keep me honest!

Work away please. I'm going on a family holiday next week so will probably start it after that.

Hit a bit of a brick wall. Lost about three stone over the summer ( which considering I did Vegas in June and Cork n July was happy with.) Out with the skipping rope at about 5:45 and then an hour of weights and a bit more skipping most days. In August had a wisdom tooth out and rather naively thought I'd just have it out and go to the gym, however that wiped me out for a week and I was worried about dry socket and dislocating the blood clot before it was healed. So lost a week then and then was just getting back into it when I did my Cilla a couple of weekends back. First day back on the skipping this morn and might try some weights on Friday.

Getting frustrated, however don't want to properly * my back by going back too early.

I've done intermittent fasting as well sporadically over the last year as well. Another benefit that you get from it is its a great way for your body to detoxify itself, breaking down damaged and dysfunctional cells like free radicals for energy. Homeostasis is amazing itself, and the 12 hours fasting to get to ketosis is the minimum time you need to do. I did it alongside cutting down carbs and increasing protein intake and I'd never been so lean.

I did a 14hr fast between 7pm and 9am so I could still keep my usual breakfast-lunch-dinner routine but some days I did do 16hrs and cut out breakfast totally. As you say Sween, the way you quickly adapt after the first week or so it becomes a lot easier. First few days your cravings and grumbling stomach are hard to ignore though.

Let us know how you get on Derry.

I am pretty fit and have been for 10 years or so. Used to be super skinny. The best i can say is to keep it simple.

I do 250 push-ups per day which sound like many but if you do 50 + 50 which takes about 8 minutes, just rest for 20 minutes untill the muscles are relaxed again, and do another 50+50 and att another 50 before bedtime. Takes no time and will get you fit.

Extremely fast and simple and basic. And you can if you want just throw in a couple of sets per week of bicep curls and ground lifts or whatever it is called in english.

Problem with this is, recovery is much slower and you are more prone to injury. Every time I've injured myself (including this Monday) it has been on a large calorie deficit. -1000 kcal daily. Thought I'd pop out a PR on deadlifts because I shed some weight. Hit it.

Decided to do crunches same day, bye bye lower back. ON FRICKIN' crunches, no way. Could barely walk on Monday. I gained 10kg over the summer on a dirty bulk, I could be careless and had 0 issues. Now back at the gym doing 50% on anything that involves my lower back, including squats. Have to use machines to isolate muscle groups away from my lumbar.

This is bro science but at large body fat %, you'll probably be fine because your body won't be using food primarily as a source of energy. Going from 15 to <10% BF is dangerous this way. I still do it myself and I'm not going to tell people not to do it. Just be * careful and do a little less than you think you're capable of.

I've not really thought about that, and for me it was purely done to lose a bit of excess fat quickly in a short space of time. I didn't measure my BFP at the time though, just had a weight goal and had an idea aesthetically how I wanted to look (fasting and using fat as an energy source is the only way to get rid of stubborn belly fat for example).

I did calorie deficit, carb cutting and the intermittent fasting to do so, obviously if your fitness goals are different it's irrelevant but didn't realise that about the injury/recovery. Is that still the same if your protein intake is high? -1000kcal is a massive deficit also, mine was only 200-300kcal daily and less so if I was training or golfing that day.

Ran my first official half marathon today. 2. 34.16. My personal best with that distance is 2:58 so I'm so excited I smashed it.

I’ve always been quite lean but over a good few years put on weight around my neck and stomach ended up weighing in at 13st 10lbs

Heaviest I’ve ever been and just wasn’t happy on how I looked.

never done a diet so gave up beer crisps and chocolate,it’s been 8 weeks and lost 9 pounds down to 13st 1lbs.

Must be so hard for the people that have to diet constantly.

I’ve sunk a few 0.0 beers in that time as well.
