Despite all of the talk about the condition of the pitch and the humidity in Baku, the Bhoys managed to escape from what could very easily have been a banana peel of a fixture with their dreams of Champions League football still intact.

Manager Ronny Deila decided to go with summer signing Nadir Çiftçi up front rather than leigh Griffiths in a move that had many raising their eyebrows in surprise, but considering the fact that Griffiths had come off early in the league opener against Ross County it perhaps shouldn't have been looked upon as that much of a shock.

Çiftçi put in a shift in the near 70 minutes he was on the park, but it ultimately wasn't to be his night as he was replaced after 67 minutes by Griffiths....

Dons bow down to defiant Brown

Aberdeen 0-1 Celtic: Champions win at 2nd place Aberdeen

Celtic produced a gutsy performance at Pittodrie to complete a clean sweep of victories over second place Aberdeen and , thanks to a superb counter-attacking goal started and finished by their skipper, Scott Brown.

The hosts started the game far better than Ronny Deila's side who, at times, had the look of a team who had been enjoying their status as Champions over the past week, and The Dons played with great intensity in the opening exchanges. A Barry Robson effort from distance had Craig Gordon scrambling across his goal, and Mark Reynolds saw his headed effort go wide of the target .

Celtic took their time settling into the game and played without any real tempo, and Leigh Griffiths seemed to permanently be in an offside position. However, The Hoops had...

Patience the key, as five star Celts dominate: Celtic 5-0 Dundee

They say patience is a virtue, and Celtic showed they had it in abundance on Friday night as they produced one of the most one-sided and convincing performances of the season against Paul Hartley's Dundee.

A dominant first half saw Celtic completely control the ball and the territory, as Dundee were penned in for almost the entire 45 minutes. With Griffiths and Mackay-Steven both possessing the pace to threaten in behind, the visitors dropped deep. However, the quick passing and interplay of the Champions-Elect would soon see their resistance broken. The breakthrough came on the half hour mark, with in-form Griffiths rising to meet a looping cross from Emilio Izaguirre.

Crucially, Brown and Bitton - usually Brown - took it in turns to vacate their position in front of the defence and join the attack. After some patient build-up from the hosts,...

Griffiths' goals take Celts to the brink of glory

Dundee United 0 - 3 Celtic

It wasn't the treble Ronny Deila was hoping for, but Leigh Griffiths' second half hat-trick sealed the 3 points required to move Celtic a step closer to the title - which would be the 4th in a row - after a 'Jekyll & Hyde' performance at Tannadice.

Aberdeen's win at Inverness yesterday kept the pressure on The Bhoys to continue producing results, and the Champions responded in the manner you'd expect after a lacklustre first half.
With several Celtic players appearing to be feeling the effects of a long season in the opening 45 minutes the hosts looked the brighter side, without ever seriously threatening to open the scoring.

Jackie McNamara mirrored the formation of the man in the other...

Caley Jags Burst the Treble Bubble

Celtic are out of the Scottish Cup, and the treble dream is over, but this semi-final had a familiar feel to it for Celtic, as questions are once again raised about both the quality of the playing surface at Hampden and, more pressingly, the quality of decision-making by Scottish officials.

Goals from Tansey, Ofere and Raven put Celtic to the sword after Craig Gordon's red card, but The Bhoys will rightly feel a sense of injustice after the officials failed to spot a clear handball from Inverness defender Josh Meekings.

Caley had the Champions on the ropes during the early exchanges, but Celtic grew into the game and began testing 'keeper Ryan Esson from range, with Griffiths, Bitton, Johansen, Brown and Commons all seeing efforts go close.
And the favourites eventually took the lead, when Virgil Van Dijk curled home a...
