After a night of mixed emotions in Germany, Celtic must now deal with the transition from the dizzying heights of the Champions League, to their bread and butter of the SPFL.

Inverness will be our opponents on Saturday and the Highlanders have proven themselves something of a bogey team for Celtic in the past - a label they'll be hoping to live up to come the weekend. The last meeting between the two sides ended in a two all draw, but is perhaps best remembered for bringing to an end Celtic's domestic winning streak.

Celtic are naturally the favourites going in to this match, with the Parkhead side currently being unbeaten in all domestic competition. However, fans will remember that Inverness were the...

Aberdeen

Saturday 29th October 2016

Celtic met Aberdeen at noon on Saturday knowing that a victory would extend their lead to ten points over the Dons, having played a game less. In what has proved to be a tricky encounter for Celtic in recent seasons, a moment of magic from Aussie midfielder Tom Rogic proved to be the difference between the two sides. Aberdeen looked a galvanised team after their disappointing midweek loss to Hamilton Accies, their first loss since the last time they met Celtic back in August. Celtic weren’t quite at their fluid best, but will head into Tuesday’s crunch Champions League tie with Borussia Mönchengladbach with three successive wins and clean sheets behind them and a growing sense of optimism that they might be able to propel themselves back into European contention.

The opening exchanges were typically hectic, with both sides in pursuit...

Late flurry of goals give Celtic a comfortable win in the Highlands, as the champions move 7 points clear at the top of the league
Ross County were sitting 8th in the league, with two wins to their name before the match tonight. Having only scored 4 goals at home this season, picking up a result against high flying Celtic was always going to be a big ask. In the end, the task proved too difficult for Ross County as the Hoops won by a comfortable 4 goals.

Brendan Rodgers made eight changes to the team...

Celts suffer hammer blow to European hopes

UEFA Champions League

Celtic Park, Glasgow

Wednesday 19th October 2016

Celtic – 0

Borussia Mönchengladbach – 2 (Stindl 57, Hahn 77)

In a game that was deemed as a must win for Celtic if they were to have any realistic chance of qualifying for European competition beyond Christmas, they were dealt a hammer blow in what was a classy and efficient performance by their German opposition. Inspired by playmaker Lars Stindl, Die Fohlen very much stamped their authority on the game from an early stage and were comfortable in their 0-2 victory. The result means that Celtic need to overcome a two-point deficit against the Germans and a loss in the reverse fixture in just under a fortnight would all but end Celtic’s chances of qualifying for the Europa League last 32 after the New Year.

The German outfit were under no illusions as to the difficulty of the task they would face in...
