CELTIC reached the second phase of the UEFA Champions League for the first time after Shunsuke Nakamura’s wonder goal and Artur Boruc’s dramatic late penalty save sealed a famous victory over Manchester United.

Celtic – with nine points - now sit top of Group F by virtue of their better head-to-head record over United. With the aggregate score from the two group matches between the sides sitting at 3-3, the Hoops’ two away goals at Old Trafford made the difference.

Benfica, who beat Copenhagen 3-1 in Lisbon, now sit on seven points and will battle with United for the remaining knockout place when the sides meet at Old Trafford next month.

After an uninspiring first period, the game burst into life late in the second half when Nakamura curled a spectacular trademark free-kick into the top corner from fully 35 yards.

United, however, passed up a chance to level in the dying stages when Louis Saha’s spot kick, given in extremely dubious circumstances, was superbly saved by...

After an action-packed first period, the champions moved ahead minutes before the break courtesy of a Darren Dods own goal. The Hoops dominated in the second period and goals from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and substitute Jiri Jarosik sealed the win.

Title rivals Hearts and Rangers, who meet tomorrow at Tynecastle, are now a staggering 18 points behind Celtic, with Aberdeen currently in second place – 15 points adrift of the Hoops.

The victory was the perfect preparation for Tuesday’s crucial UEFA Champions League match with Manchester United. However, one black spot on an otherwise positive day for Celtic was a second-half injury to Gary Caldwell.

Hoops boss Strachan made just one change from the side that beat St Mirren 3-1 last Sunday, with Maciej Zurawski replacing the injured Kenny Miller. The Scotland striker’s fitness will continue to be monitored ahead of Tuesday’s European clash....
Kenny Miller has been speaking of the two upcoming games that celtic face in the next 4 days "It's a different ball game.

When you are playing Champions League teams they are a lot more open and anyone who comes to Parkhead in the Champions League tries to win the game.

"In the Premier League it's a bit more tight and there is a lot less space in which to operate for forwards.

"You find that chances are few and far between. Obviously that's the way teams approach it and as a national team that's the kind of way Scotland play against a France or an Italy and you cannot knock the teams for that."

"It's important that we do take care of Inverness and the gaffer will not let our minds wander to Tuesday.

"We have a job in hand first and the fans will come expecting. They might have one eye on Tuesday night but there is no way they want to turn up on Saturday and see us lose or draw.

"They want us to maintain this winning run we've got and as players we want to...
Celtic go into this weekends game against Inverness Caley Thistle on the back of 10 league wins in a row, and manager Gordon Strachan is aiming to make that 11 against the last team to take points off his team.

Despite struggling in some recent games, his team have continued to pick up maximum points, demonstrating the winning mentality required from championship contenders.

Inverness are well known for their outstanding form on the road, with the win at Ibrox recently the best example. However, they travel to the home of the champions on the back of a defeat against Hibs at Easter Road.

They are also without goalkeeper Mark Brown after he was sent off against Hibs.

Celtic's run of victories has seen them build an incredible 15 point gap at the top of the table, and the players are determined not to let complacency set in. Everyone will be playing for a place in the starting lineup against Manchester United on Tuesday, and there is also the small matter of keeping up the...
World Cup runners-up France travel to Hampden Park for the clash of the top two sides in Group B on Saturday but injuries and suspensions prevent the Scottish national side having any Celtic players in the fold.

The suspension of Kenny Miller is a major blow to Scotland as the inform striker has scored in his last two appearances for Scotland including the winner in Lithuania. And with other attacking options such as Maloney and Beattie only returning from injury and Riordian out of favour at the club, the Scottish attack will lack a cutting edge.

In defence, Mark Wilson is still sidelined with a broken foot and McManus is expected to be over-looked by manager Walter Smith for the central defensive pairing of Pressely and Weir who performed so well in the opening two fixtures. Injuries to Kevin McNaughton, Graeme Murty and Russell Anderson has stretched Smith's defensive options to breaking point as the Scots look to continue their great form of the past year.

And with...
