Celtic manager Gordon Strachan insists his strikers are still playing their part in the Hoops' campaign despite their lack of goals.

The Parkhead men are odds-on to retain their Bank of Scotland Premier League title and have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time, but are not getting a steady stream of goals from their hit-men.

Kenny Miller has not scored in his last seven games and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who missed Saturday's victory with a hamstring injury, has scored only twice in his last eight matches.

Jiri Jarosik, who has also been played up front at various times despite being a midfielder, has chipped in with three goals.

And Magic Zurawski had scored only once in his last eight matches until he grabbed the only goal of the game against the Dons after coming on as a second-half substitute for Thomas Gravesen.

Strachan said: "At this time last season the strikers had scored 50 per cent of our goals, that is down to 30 per...
Celtic 1-0 Aberdeen

Substitute Maciej Zurawski breached a stubborn Aberdeen defence to secure a hard-fought victory for Celtic.

The visitors thwarted Celtic with some superb saves from Jamie Langfield and Gary Dempsey, industrious in midfield.

Kenny Miller spurned a glorious chance in 43 minutes after Lee Naylor's shot was saved.

Celtic broke the deadlock in 71 minutes - to the relief of anxious home fans - when Zurawski swept home Naylor's cross from six yards.

Thomas Gravesen returned from a thigh injury to take his place in the Celtic midfield for the visit of Aberdeen.

The Dane took over from Jiri Jarosik, who moved up to partner Kenny Miller in attack, with Maciej Zurawski dropping to the bench.

Shaun Maloney's ankle injury sustained against Hibernian last Sunday meant he missed out, the Hoops' midfielder replaced by...

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has hit out at agent Willie McKay for going public with Stephen Pearson's predicament at the Scottish champions.

Although I'd like to see Pearson go, GS has highlighted the problem agents pose to clubs ad players. I hope this * gets hit hard!!
Chief executive Peter Lawwell claims Celtic have the potential to become one of the world's biggest clubs.

The Hoops guaranteed their spring involvement in the UEFA Champions League with a memorable win over Manchester United this month and Lawwell is keen to increase, what he terms, recognition of the Glasgow club.

Celtic are entertaining the prospect of a European league after reaching what Lawwell claims is 'saturation point' in Scotland.

Lawwell also revealed Celtic signed Roy Keane primarily to exploit their Irish market, while admitting other players signed recently have given the club similar benefits.

"We are a club in a small region with a massive reach with the Irish-Scots diaspora around the world. I don't think there is a city in the civilised world in which there isn't a Celtic supporters club," Lawwell told the Soccerex conference in Dubai.

"Point two would be to go out and find players, obviously they must be able to play, but to find players in the...
CELTIC manager Gordon Strachan has hailed European hero Shunsuke Nakamura as one of football's greatest bargain buys.

Nakamura sent Celtic Park wild last week when he curled home a stunning free-kick to sink Sir Alex Ferguson's side and seal a place in the Champions League last 16.

It was his finest moment since arriving from Reggina in summer 2005 and Strachan insists Naka didn't cost him anywhere near the £2.7million fee quoted at the time.

The Hoops gaffer said: "It was nowhere near it. And if you take into account buying the image rights it still doesn't come close. Shunsuke has been value for money but even if we paid £5m I would still think that. If he didn't do well it would have given people ammunition to blow him to pieces but he has been great for us."

However, Strachan admits a player like Nakamura wouldn't have stood a chance in the Scottish game if he had played at the same time as his gaffer in the ruthless...
