Scott McDonald today committed his future to Celtic by putting pen to paper on an improved 5 year contract.

The club started negotiating with the 24 year old Australian international at the end of a sensational first season during which he became the top scorer in the SPL with 25 goals, and a total of 31 in all competitions. His goals were a huge part in Celtic's sensational comeback to capture their 3rd title in a row.

He also became the first Celtic striker since the departure of Henrik Larsson to hit 30 or more in a season.

“It was a very successful season for myself personally, and for the club to finish the way it did was fantastic.

I am really looking forward to getting back and just coming to the ground today, after three weeks away, has really got me champing at the bit again.

I do need a bit of rest though. I am just back from international duty, so now I’ll get a few weeks away, refresh the body and the mind and then come back as hungry...
Wenger sizes up Boruc ?

Reports emerged today that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a move for Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc. Poland's first choice keeper represented his country in yesterday's 2-0 defeat to tournament favourites Germany but acquitted himself well as the defence in front of him was, at times, cut open with ease. He has previously been linked with possible moves to AC Milan, Internazionale and Barcelona. Ironically Boruc's opposite number in the Euro 2008 match was Jens Lehemann - the man he could replace at Arsenal.

Boruc has recently signed a new contract at Celtic but there are rumours of an 'understanding' between Boruc and the Glasgow giants that if a huge offer comes in Celtic will not stand in his way. It remains to be seen whether Boruc would be tempted by a move to Arsenal or may indeed be holding out for a club which would improve his chances of winning the Champions League. Barcelona would seem to be a favoured option,...
Adam Virgo "Freed"

Celtic have freed Adam Virgo from Celtic park only three years after paying Brighton £1.5 million for his services. He was thought to be a up and coming defender who could also play as a striker and for the price Celtic paid everyone thought that was a bargain for a player who could play more than one position.

But he never really broke into the first team, He only made 12 appearances in total, and was soon loaned out to Coventry City in 2006 but that loan was cut short due to a serious knee injury he picked up there.

In August 2007 he moved again on loan to Colchester for 6 months which was extended in December 31 until the end of 2007-2008 season. It is thought that Virgo cost Celtic in the region of £600,000 in wages during his time at Parkhead with a cost of £175,000 per game.

It is thought that Virgo could go back to Brighton and team up with boss Mickey Adams once more.
Former Motherwell defender Chris McCart has been appointed as the head of Celtic's youth academy.

McCart had a similar role for the last seven years at Motherwell and takes over from Tommy Burns, who died of cancer in May. "I was honoured to initially have been asked by Tommy to be his assistant," McCart told Celtic's website.
"I enjoyed my time immensely at Motherwell and want to wish everyone at the club the very best for the future."
McCart goes back to Celtic for a second spell as a coach.
Before taking up his previous role at Fir Park, he was part of the Celtic youth development staff.
"It is a real pleasure and privilege to return to Celtic, a club which I have a great affection for," he said.
"I am now looking forward to the many challenges which lie ahead."
Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said: "We are delighted to welcome Chris...
