Battling Celtic lose again
A Marcos Senna free-kick was enough to make sure Celtic left Spain with nothing but a bit of pride.
Gordon Strachan will take heart from his sides first-half performance, which should have seen them go in at the break in front.
From the off there looked to be more of a plan in place than any of the previous adventures away in Europe. In keeping with the pre-match speculation, Celtic lined up in a 4-5-1 formation and kept Villarreal at bay. Although the Spanish side saw plenty of the ball, it was all in front of Celtic as they struggled to get in behind the green & white wall that The Bhoy's had put up.
When Celtic had the ball they didn't seem to panic as much as in previous away games, looking calmer and more confident as the half went on. There was plenty of movement in the Celtic side going forward. Although it didn't generate too many clear-cut chances, there was certainly...

Can Celtic sink the 'Yellow submarines'?
The second round of matches in this years Champions League see's Celtic take on Spanish side Villarreal at El Madrigal.
The Bhoys' dreadful away record in this competition is well documented and they will be looking to take something from the game in front of around a 25,000 crowd.
After their stuttering start to the campaign (0-0 draw with Aalborg), manager Gordon Strachan and some of the players have already come out and said they need to pick up a win on the road if they are to advance to the last 16 for the third season in a row.
That, however, is easier said than done. The Chilean boss, Manuel Pellegrini, has assembled a good squad and that showed with their second place finish in La Liga, finishing ahead of the likes of Sevilla, Valencia, Athletico Madrid and, of course, Barcelona. They managed this with a far more modest...

Celtic 3-2 Aberdeen
A last-gasp, close-range winner was enough to give Celtic all three points after a fantastic match with Aberdeen at Celtic Park.
With ten minutes to go, Celtic were trailing 2-1, but late goals from Scott McDonald and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink were enough to win the match for Celtic.
The only player in the Celtic starting line-up who didn't start in the 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock last week was Glenn Loovens, who started in place of Gary Caldwell. There was still no place in the starting line-up for McGeady, who was on the substitutes bench.
The match started at a slow pace with few chances for either side in the first ten minutes. But even at this early stage, it was clear to see that Celtic's strike-force were working well together. This good work paid-off after 14 minutes. Georgios Samaras drove forward on a good run and the ball made its way to Scott Brown who's cut-back to Vennegoor of Hesselink was perfect. Samaras 'Ou zo' Impressive
Georgios Samaras continued his red hot goal scoring form in the fourth round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup last night helping himself to a brace as an impressive Celtic side despatched with Livingstone 4-0.
As expected Strachan tinkered with his starting 11 again giving; Andreas Hinkel, Paul Caddis, Massimo Donati, Paul Hartley, Aiden McGeady and Scott McDonald returns to the line-up. It was another of the newer recruits however, Glenn Loovens, that started the ball rolling in the 24th minute. The summer recruit from Cardiff has found it hard to break the central defensive partnership of Caldwell and McManus so far but a well timed leap and strong headed finish will have done his future chances no harm.
Going into the break 1 nil up didn't tell half the story of the match as Celtic could have had another 2 or 3 with little reply from the visitors. Any doubts as to whether those missed...

'Yes' to the CIS
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan yesterday sounded out a warning that Celtic are in every cup they enter this year to win them.
In a short statement of intent that won't have been well received by their fourth round opponents, Livingstone, Strachan said;
“We want to try and win everything we get involved in, and it’s nice to get to a cup final.”
Having rung the changes in recent weeks to mixed success, it appears the Celtic managers confidence in the strength of his squad has reached new heights unseen in his tenure so far.
To that end, and also given the fact the side only played on Sunday afternoon, tonight should be no different and a few of the less utilised squad players should get their chance to impress.
"There will be changes to our team and it’s understandable because we played Sunday and now we’re playing Tuesday, but...
