Goals from Georgios Samaras and Amido Balde, either side of a Kris Doolan goal for Partick Thistle, ensured that Celtic picked up where they left off against Ajax on Tuesday night and continued their unbeaten start to their league campaign, with a hard fought 2-1 victory against Scottish Premiership new boys Partick Thistle at Firhill Stadium.

The fixture was the first time that a Glasgow derby had taken place in the Scottish top flight since April 2012, when Celtic defeated their now deceased city rivals Rangers 3-0 at Celtic Park. Celtic recorded their first victory in the group stages, this season, with an assured performance against Ajax. The Dutch side were the favourites for the game, but the Celts were buoyed on by the ever-faithful Celtic supporters.



The Dutch side controlled possession through-out, but seldom threatened the home side.
