Celtic disposed of Hearts with somewhat relative ease yesterday in Edinburgh, as goals from former Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths and Teemu Pukki ensured that the Hoops continued their unbeaten streak in the league this season and moved 24 points clear of Aberdeen in second place in the process.
It was a day of success all round, both for the team as a unit and also for personal reasons. Not only did Griffiths score his first ever goal in a Celtic jersey since signing in January, but goalkeeper Fraser Forster also beat the record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal in the top division of Scottish football.
The record had previously been set by former Aberdeen goalkeeper Bobby Clark in the 1970-71 season. Forster is now only 96 minutes away from beating the British...

Celtic rebounded from last week’s Scottish Cup disappointment with a 3-0 win over St. Johnstone thanks to an Anthony Stokes hat trick. The clean sheet marks the 12th in a row for the Hoops during league play, equaling a Scottish record dating back 43 years and set by Aberdeen goalkeeper Bobby Clark.
While the final scoreline suggests domination, the match opened with a few moments of uncertainty for the Celtic defence. Virgil van Dijk gave away a needless foul on the edge of the area and Emilio Izaguirre carelessly surrendered possession in the same vicinity within the first six minutes. However, these would be St. Johnstone’s best chances for almost...
Celtic – From “Worst” SPL Champions in 2013 to “Best Ever” Twelve Months Later?
In the 2001-02 SPL season, Martin O’Neill’s Celtic side romped to the title, aided by Henrik Larsson’s 29 League goals and John Hartson’s 19.
That year, Hartson finished 2nd in the Golden Boot race but the plaudits rightly went to the Swedish hitman as well as a defence that conceded only 18 goals during the entire domestic campaign.
These were startling statistics in what has proved to be a record league points tally in the SPL, as O’Neill’s men won 33 of their 38 games on their way to 103 points come season’s end.
O'Neill - manager during the 2001-02...
Apocalypse Now
Lets all laugh at ...
When the former club known as Rangers went down the waste tube, the media, even the SFA heralded that this would bring the apocalypse. The four horsemen would destroy any credibility the Scottish game still had. Scottish clubs would go to the wall just like they had done.
Over two years later the game in Scotland is still here, it's not exactly thriving but that was never going to happen unless a substantial investment was made in the form of a TV deal. A deal that football in this country actually deserves and not some form of handout to keep us all afloat.
Irrespective of the doom and gloom merchants who forever demean our game, forever criticise and slight, Celtic have qualified for the group stages of the Champions League two years on the trot, also reaching the last sixteen on one occasion with a famous...

Celtic host Aberdeen in the tie of the round in the Scottish Cup Fifth Round. With both teams on form and high in confidence, this may be Celtic’s toughest domestic challenge so far this season.
Forster against Aberdeen at Pittrodie earlier in the season
2014 has been a good year so far for both teams. On the field, Celtic have enjoyed an aggregate score of 34-0 over their last 12 league games, having not conceded since the last time Celtic played Aberdeen in November. Off the field,...
