Celtic v KR Reykjavik
UEFA Champions League Qualifier
Murrayfield
22nd July 2014
7.45 pm KO

It may not be on home soil at Celtic Park, but Deila embarks on his home European Journey today to finish what the Bhoys started in Iceland with his first competitive fixture in front of the Parkhead faithful.

Today's game is free on the season ticket and is not available on any TV channel (in this region at least). Thus, we can expect quite a sizeable turnout at Murrayfield to give Deila and of course the players the backing they deserve as they begin this new era.

Last week, Celtic put one foot in the 3rd Qualification Round with a 1-0 victory away from home over KR Reykjavik courtesy of Scottish debutant Callum McGregor's late deflected strike. This hopefully sets up a more free flowing and dominant performance today, backed up with plenty of goals.

KR Reykjavik 0-1 Celtic
UEFA Champions League Qualifier
KR Vollur Stadium
15th July 2014

Celtic took a big step towards the next round of Champions League qualification last night, narrowly securing a 1-0 victory over KR Reykjavik in Iceland, thanks to a goal from youngster Callum McGregor with less than ten minutes remaining on the clock.

In truth, the Bhoys dominated proceedings for almost the entire duration of the contest, but crucially, they were unable to find the breakthrough until the dying moments of the match. Kris Commons was the man posing the most problems for the Icelandic outfit's defence though, and the Englishman could have had a few goals of his own, had it not been for a combination of the crossbar and the Reykjavik goalkeeper.

The first real chance for Celtic came courtesy of that man Commons, with Leigh Griffiths doing extremely well to beat his man and then tee up Commons for a volley from...

Crunch Time For Deila

KR Reykjavik vs Celtic
KR-völlur, Reykjavik, Tuesday 15th July
Kick-Off 8PM (UK time)

Both Forrest and Brown miss out

The summer hasn't been so bad once Celtic finished the season in May. We had the World Cup to look forward to throughout June and early July. That kind of competitive action gave us the fix we needed to last us until Celtic were finally back in action in Austria.

Like most Celtic fans, unless Scotland are at an international tournament, i look forward to a Celtic game more than any World Cup game, even the final. They are interesting no doubt because i am a football fan but Celtic comes first. What is more exciting or nerve-wracking about this preseason is that we are under new management. Lennon guided us twice to the CL group stages, going through qualifying rounds along the way.

Our new manager Ronny Deila has little European...

An Old Feud Renewed

Celtic met an old acquaintance in Rapid Vienna in Austria this Sunday. That famous tie nearly 30 years ago is still remembered both fondly and with anger from both sets of fans. This time though it was simply a pre-season friendly to whet the appetite for the Bhoys in green.

After a productive start against Krasnodar, Rapid posed a serious test for the Hoops, the Austrian side were considerably further ahead in their pre-season than Celtic. We all know that results from friendlies should be taken with a significant pinch of salt, results are certainly not an indicator of how a team will perform for the rest of the season.

If they were then we would have won the Champions League under Mowbray. These games are simply about getting match sharpness and match fitness up quickly. The game was played at a good tempo and...
Forgivably Sluggish, Delightfully Fresh.

Celtic 3-1 FK Krasnodar
Pre-season friendly
Hofmaninger Stadion, Bad Wimsbach, Austria
Thursday, July 3, 2014

Celtic kicked off their pre-season campaign in Austria with a battling performance against last season’s fifth placed Russian Premier League outfit, FK Krasnodar. There were plenty of familiar faces in the starting line-up, with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Mikael Lustig, Charlie Mulgrew, Scott Brown all togging out for Deila’s managerial debut.

Deila’s quick, passing, attacking football philosophy was immediately evident in Celtic’s play. Within 40 seconds of kick-off, The Bhoys strung together an impressively rapid flow of passes, followed by a pin point long ball to Anthony Stokes who made no mistake with the lobbed finish.

The Celtic lads worked...
