CONFIRMED - Celtic IN, Legia OUT! Champions League Play off draw live at 11AM!

Celtic were today handed a European reprieve, as Legia Warsaw paid the ultimate penalty for fielding an suspended player in the 2nd leg of their knockout match against the Bhoys.

Ronny Deila’s men now proceed to the play off stage of the Champions League, and will find out their potential opponent in today’s draw, to be held at 11AM UK time.

Legia do have the right of appeal, but this route is not expected to be successful, with the Polish Club's chairman tweeting "i have failed."

Celtic vs Legia Warsaw Match Report

Worst fears realised

Celtic have known ever since they won the league last season that their most important games would come before the SPFL even kicked off. It is only logical then to prepare for those games in the best manner possible, irrespective of any glamour friendlies or any tours to the continent. The sole purpose was to get ready for these qualifiers which essentially define our season.

The Bhoys got off to a good start against Rekyavik but really they were a poor team. Against Warsaw we came up against an opponent who were vastly superior both fitness wise and technically. A team better than all of the opponents we faced in last years qualifying rounds. Yet for all of that Celtic were the team with two successive seasons in the CL group stages, Celtic were the team that only two year's ago reached...

Celtic: Chronic underinvestment, the inherited squad, and the lack of managerial nous.

There is little purpose in looking for any positives this morning; this in the aftermath of the European debacle Celtic has endured so far this season.

Even those fans who have historically pointed to a flourishing balance sheet, along with consecutive SPL wins and Champions League qualification, have now woken with the realisation that Celtic’s downward spiral has not been weeks or months in the making; rather, it has been years.

Since The Whyte Knight ensured hilarity levels around all but one football ground in Scotland hit an all-time high 2 years ago, Celtic have had a once in a generation opportunity to drive home their advantage.

I don't know about you, but I'm getting a real strong sense of deja vu this morning.

We've been down this road before.

27th July, 2005. A new manager, a bad defeat in Champions League qualification.

Three league titles, a Scottish cup, two league cups and progression to the Champions League round of 16 not once, but twice was to follow. We never failed to make the group stages again under Gordon Strachan.

18th August, 2009. A new manager, a defeat in Champions League qualification.

This manager was not to go on to further glory with the club, although losing to EPL giants Arsenal over two games is hardly a disgrace.

28th July, 2010. A new manager takes the helm for his first complete season, and is dealt a bad defeat in Champions League qualification. This is further compounded by defeat to Dutch outfit FC Utrecht in the Europa League play-off round.

Celtic breezed into the third qualifying round after beating the Icelandic Champions 5-0 on aggregate. Now they face a significant step up in quality as they travel to Poland to face Legia Warsaw. The away trip to Iceland was a relatively calm endeavour for the men in green and white. The atmosphere was not a hostile one, there was more chance of the notorious Alan suddenly appearing as a spectre than the Hoops being caught cold. The same can definitely not be said of their next encounter against the Polish Champions.

This is a cauldron the Bhoys will be entering, a wall of noise, meant to be intimidating for opponents and inspiring for the home team. We know all about how an atmosphere can lift a team to a new level, how...
