Most clubs work it they get to keep the profit of the say New Balance merchandise they sell themselves through their own stores but then New Balance keep all the money from sales elsewhere. So Celtic for example make no extra money from fans buying tops from any sports shops that aren't Celtic shops. We are quite lucky we have a lot of our own shops, I think about 10 but some other clubs quite a lot actually only have 1 or 2 like Man U who you mentioned i've been in Manchester a few times and I dont recall ever seeing a Man Utd shop except the megastore on their stadium, that could be down to why they get more money for their deal off Adidas because they only have 1 shop of their own it might be in the contract. Barcelona have a lot of their own shops in comparison, I can mind seeing quite a lot of Barcelona shops just in the places in Spain i've been so they must have loads across the country.

I hate when people bang on about this.

'Celtic are a fiver more expensive, moan tae sports direct.'

Celtic aren't adding a fiver, sports direct are reducing the price by a fiver. If Celtic go to £40, sports direct will go to £35. If Celtic go to £5, sports direct will give it away for free.

That's what Mike Ashley does. He buys in bulk and squeezes the opposition. We're a very small retail operation compared to them, how the * can we possibly compete on price?

Some people say, 'Well it's got a Celtic crest surely Celtic get them cheap?!'

Naw, they're * extortionate to buy from Nike, New Balance, etc. and they absolutely won't give Celtic a discount over Sports Direct on any merchandise. If Celtic buy £5m worth of New Balance merchandise to sell in its 3 stores, how much do you think a huge retail operation like Sports Direct buy? How could we possibly get a favourable deal?

We don't get any money from a jersey sold by any other retailers. I can understand if a retailers selling it at £30 and Celtic are punting it at £60, but for * sake if it's only for the sake of a fiver get your money into the club.

They've shut most of the Celtic stores down. Almost none of them had made any profit for years due to the rise of the internet and people buying from the local sports stores. I think they spoke about it in some of the annual financial reports.

Maybe not most then, but a number have been closed in recent years and I'm fairly sure a few more will go in the next few years. No bad thing if they don't make any money I suppose. Might be doing a bit better these days with the Brendan effect.

I wish they would have a bit in the club shops that dealt with tickets and that side of things, it would maybe help take the pressure off the ticket office as the waiting times there are brutal.

Could this thread be stickied at transfer window time, it would save having to read how extra shirt sales will pay for everything :56:

I bought tickets for a league or cup game at Parkhead either last year or the year before from the argyle street store. Think they only had them for certain sections of the ground though

Any figures to back that up? I know it had a positive impact for the club, but I doubt we made millions from it.

At the time you could have put nakas head on anything and you could guarantee the boys on the day trip from Nagasaki would be scrambling to buy it in the superstore

True, but how many Japanese tourists came to Parkhead? A few hundred, a thousand?

Our attendances at the time wouldnt have really allowed for more than a few thousand to have made the journey. Most games were a sell out on paper. How much we made through the ¥ payment option on the online store would be always be the best measure.

Always thought it would've been around the 50/50 mark.Quite surprised at that as clubs will have a choice of which brand makes the shirt.
