According to the Financial Times, the average number of viewers on Sky Sports’ live channels fell 14 per cent this past season, with total viewing hours suffering a fall of 6 per cent.

Figures from the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (Barb) show that Sky paid £4.2bn for the rights in the latest deal, while BT shelled out £960m. The latter have also seen a drop in viewers, but only of 2 per cent in average viewing.

    Has the bubble burst :eek1:

Not surprising really. After so may years of basically being able to dominate the market share virtually unopposed they got complacent. Not that I follow the EPL, but their coverage of the Scottish game is vastly inferior to what BT have committed to the game here.

And if Sky stop pumping their way over inflated value to the Epl, then it could be a real issue for the EPL. But Sky's market strategy from virtually day one was largely dependant upon their coverage of football above and beyond anything else. If these figures are making them reconsider their business model it could spel a bit of trouble for the EPL in the years and future broadcast deals in the future.

It's not burst just the rise of the Android box :56: I'm sure it'll increase again soon enough now they are blocking the epl games.

Would be interesting to know what Scotlands share of that 14% was.

Noticed a huge rise, even on here, in people chucking Sky for the likes of Sportsmania, Kodi or whatever.

I cancelled Sky in April and haven't missed it at all. Saving myself over £600 a year. I just felt it was overpriced for what it is. I'm guessing there's many more like me.

Makes sense now why all the illegal satellite boxes all have started ending. Sky have started encrypting their channels better that people can't crack. Wouldn't be surprised it wasn't after seeing their figures drop.

I've never understood why Sky pay so much for the football deal.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-31379128

The deal works out at over £11m for every live game. There's only around 1m people watching on average. The biggest games get close to 2m, but even games with Arsenal and Chelsea get 600-700k. I've no idea what the smaller teams get as they don't make it into BARB's audience figures.

The bottom line is Sky pays over £11 per game for every single viewer. How is that even possible?

My guess is they show 500 channels of * and repeats with all the other customer's money is pumped into the football deal. It really does stink.

All the other Sky customers have a right to be very * off when they have no interest in English football.

Mines been encrypted but I'll never pay sky another penny. It's IPTV for me, now more expensive, but at least I'm not funding SKY or the BPL
