I'm sure Wilshere was referring to Januzaj and not players like Zaha or Sterling. Zaha and Sterling have been raised in Britain and lived there for the majority of their lives, so it only makes sense they should play for England - whilst Januzaj was raised in Belgium and moved to England when he was 15. It's been blown so far out of proportion

I'm not 100% convinced. I would have liked to have seen him asked about it earlier so we could have judged his true opinions. However I accept he is a footballer not a Politician ( then again I am not a fan of footballers on Twitter etc.)

I am sure over the next couple of days he will clarify his opinions(or more likely someone else will do it for him.). A bit like the "I do not smoke" statement a few days after been photographed smoking.

People saying who does Wilshire think he is, deciding if he is English or not.... that's not Wilshire deciding he is, that's just a fact. He's not English.

The only laughable thing about his comments is the we are England, hard tacklers touch to beat comments...

Well the whole idea of Wilshire's throwaway ill thought out comments on twitter triggered such a debate is laughable( just glad I didn't waste any of my time thinking about such a non-story.)

Wilshere said his comments weren't directed at Januzaj, but obviously that is who he meant as it's the talk of the English nation. :smiley-laughing002:

    Did he? :smiley-laughing002:

Somebody should ask him who it was directed at then :icon_mrgreen:

It definitely was aimed at him. The FA probably gave him a clip round the ear.

    He obviously isn't.

But one can also say that McGeady and McCarthy are not Irish either, Commons is not Scottish, Ozil is not German etc.
Doesn't stop them playing national football team for a country if conditions are met.

TBF Wilshere got banned as well as he couldn't keep politics out of football.

No, he was banned for the awful crime of suggesting that the irrational dislike of Stokes may be based on non-footballing reasons.
