Celtic Vs Hibernian Preview
This weekend will see Celtic come face to face with formidable opponents in Hibernian. The Edinburgh side currently sit 6th in the SPL 5 points behind their rivals Hearts. Both Celtic and Hibs' form has been a little shaky and both will be looking to overcome this.
Celtic go into the match after a heavy 4-2 defeat at the hands of Aberdeen at Pittodrie last weekend. The Bhoys' defence could be needing a serious looking over as they were at fault for every single goal conceeded against the Dons. Mark Browns' confidence will no doubt have taken a thrashing from the defeat, though Artur Boruc is expected to be fit in time for the Hibernian game and may reclaim his place as the Celtic number 1.
It is arguable that with Boruc' shot stopping ability that Celtic could have won at Pittodrie and he could be the deciding factor against Hibs. The Polish international has been having some personal life...
No Case for Celtic's defence.
Gordon Strachan would have had a lot on his mind during the long journey North to Pittodrie. In line with the credit crunch, his dark blue city rivals are in complete financial meltdown while a certain team who play in light blue South of the border are smashing transfer fee records two or three times over. Most of all the Celtic manager will be worried that his opposite number at Aberdeen has finally sussed out the secret to the Champions success. The reason Celtic are top of the league according to Jimmy Calderwood as he explained yesterday is that "they're scoring goals and they're not letting too many in."
As it turned out on a windy mid-January Sunday afternoon, Jimmy was half right. Getting 2 goals at Pittodrie was enough for Hibs, Hamilton and Inverness but with Celtic's catastrophic defending from set-pieces, Aberdeen helped themselves to four...
Aberdeen v Celtic: Official Match Preview.
A five point lead, most likely reduced to two – that is the realistic scenario facing the SPL Champions when they face a rejuvenated Aberdeen side that, with the exception of recent defeat at the hands of Hamilton, is in a rich vein of form.
Celtic’s previous venture to Pittodrie resulted in a 1-1 draw; this in last season’s Scottish Cup quarter final. On that occasion, it was Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink who spared the Bhoys blushes with a late effort – a sign that the Dons can prove formidable opponents at home.
Nonetheless, confidence is high in the Celtic camp. Despite throwing away a two goal lead in their last SPL fixture – at home to Dundee United – the much publicised unrest between manager Gordon Strachan...
