can anyone one tell me if youll never walk alone was a celtic song or liverpool song first,they havnt got a patch on us singin it,60000 celts in paradise.lethal,im just tryin to shut a liverpool fan up

 

Celtic fans sang it before Liverpool fans. Celtic have been singing it since the 1950s whilst Liverpool only adopted the song as an anthem in the '60s. It was written by Rodgers & hammerstein for the musical film Carousel and has been sang by Doris Day & Gerry & The Pacemakers amongst others.
Interesting fact: There is a Liverpool FC programme in Denmark that uses the song at the start of their show. They play the Celtic version instead of the Liverpool version because the presenter thinks the Celtic fans sing it with more passion.

i dont think anyone is really sure who sang it first.

 

The only thing we know for sure is that we sing it like no other support and it is recognised around the world because of the way we sing it

 

My father remembers it being sung at Celtic Park around 1957-58. I was born in '59 and he says he sang it to me the day I was born. It disappeared from the Celtic repetoir for awhile and resurfaced in the 1960s after being released by Gerry & The Pacemakers, by then it had been taken up by the Liverpool supporters. Celtic sang it first and Celtic sing it better.
It was written in 1945 for the musical Carousel by Rodgers & Hammerstein .

Liverpool also sing The Fields of Athenrye and no doubt in 40 years time they'll claim they sang that first too.

Aye. The lovely green fields of Anfield Road. There's coos in the meadow and roses on the hills. It's such a picuresque setting. I can see why their version makes sense.
