He looks a real find, but can he break in to the starting 11 past M.Wilson ?

he's playing at left back today so maybe he could fill in for izaguirre if needed.

Not only Matthews but I honestly think Du-ri is wasted.

Id loan him out tbh or sell Cha (who I also like)
Wilson is 1st choice atm and I dont want to have to juggle it between 3 quality players.

I think he's better at left back tbh. I noticed against Cardiff that he tries to come infield instead of hitting the byline.

    Great wee player.

I actually think he'll prove to be a better option than Mark Wilson. It's great to have strength in depth. So in answer to the thread, yes:50:

A very good player. I'm glad Lennon signed him. A free transfer, as well. Makes a mockery of some of the moves south of the border. How Liverpool could use a proper full-back, for example. Stuck with the likes of Aurelio and youth players.

Looked class again. Real turn of pace, good close control, comfortable with both feet and a cool head on his young shoulders.

I know its early days but getting him in on a free could turn out to be another wonderful piece of business.

he could play on the RHS of midfield if need be.

Cha should play right mid at times, Matthews looks great at left back, cutting in and having a dig.

I didn't really answer the question before, but I don't see how we'll not make use of the player. Surely we'll accomodate him somehow. If he doesn't make 20+ appearances this season, I'll be surprised. Assuming he stays injury free. :celt_2:

I think he's going to be too good a player to leave out of the squad, great ball control and pace.

I don't know how Lennon will be able to keep Matthews & Cha happy if they don't get game time because both have looked excellent when called upon. He is also in a tricky position with Wilson as he hasn't really put a foot wrong either.

I didn't see the game tonight, but going on what people have said and based on the Cardiff game I've been extremely impressed. The only problem is that it wouldn't be fair on Mark Wilson to just drop him after having such a great season last year.
I think Matthews seems like more of a wing back (again, basing this purely on heresay and the Cardiff game, so I could be completely wrong)- he seems like more of an attacking threat who can actually run at players, cut inside, use bits of skill etc, as opposed to Wilson who is more defensive and his attacking threat is due to his excellent positional awareness and crossing. This makes me think that maybe Matthews will be thrown in as a wing back for European away games. Just a thought.
