Ok, I see certain similarities between Lenny and Martin O'Neill, certainly more than similarities with Strachan. I never really took to Strachan, despite people telling me he was our best manager since Jock Stein. Yeah, he won 3IAR and got us to the last 16 of the Champions league twice, but during his 4 year spell there was an apathy about the club i can't explain, but Lenny has brought back the excitement from the O'Neill era. Anyway I believe MON was better for Celtic than WGS because:
    1) MON won 7 trophies, GS won 6.
    2) Statistically MON had a better Old Firm record than Jock Stein - anyway remember 7 victories in a row. He had an amazing record at Ibrox winning more often than not. He gave us the 6-2 game , 3-0 away etc
Strachan won 8/18 Old Firm games and only two victories at ibrox. He lost 4 OF games in a row when Walter Smith returned and after winning 3IAR, we got hammered 4-2 by them on our own patch- MON only lost once to them at home in 5 years
    3) MON got us to a European final and gave us some memorable away wins in Europe eg Anfield, Blackburn,Ajax. Strachan never won once away in Europe in 4 years. Strachan qualified for the last 16 with 9 points, same as we had under MON, but other results helped us qualify
    4) Strachan never won a domestic treble unlike O'Neill. The only reason he won 3IAR was because theh huns got to the UEFA Cup Final, likewise MON would have won 3 then 4IAR if it hadn't been for Seville.
    I rest my case.

Somewhere in a remote part of Scotland, Gunt has just hit the roof.

  3. Now take into account the amount of money MON had to flaunt on players compared to what Strachan had to work with.

Remember though strachan basically had to build a whole new team and without the budget oneil had.

    Not this thread again.

I like both. They were both successful for Celtic when they were in charge. I'm happy with that. I don't care who was the better manager.

I understand that but Strachan spent a good bit of money.£3 million for Vennegoor of H ,£2 mill for Jarosik, £3 mill for Nakamura £2 mill for Gravesen, £4 mill for Scott Brown.

Aside from all the subjective quotes about specific games against Rangers, Europe, etc, the following stats confirm that as far as league games were concerned, Martin O'Neil has a superior record to Gordon Strachan, in fact Lenny has a better away league record than either of them!

Both were successes in their own right, time to get on with the present and future.

  14. I don't care either personally. But I will give Strachan credit where it's due because the man done alot for us with so little to work with. Financially we were struggling and nevermind him wanting to bring in his own players, he was seeing more of them being offloaded instead, then having to buy lesser players from other SPL teams.

To achieve what he done with such * financial backing is a feat that needs to be recognised. I don't really care who won more or who done what, they are both great to me.

    MON - 7 trophies - 5 seasons.
    WGS - 6 Trophies - 4 seasons.

    Both IMO, are Celtic legends.

    Spot on.

No doubt some will see it differently regarding WGS.

The comparison is tedious and completely irrelevant to the future of Celtic under Neil Lennon.
