Reading some articles post-Russia and Slovakia and the comments indicate quite a bad opinion of Ireland's all-time goalscorer on the part of Irish fans.

They don't like McGeady much either.

    Why is this?

Robbie Keane is a money grabbing moron, who has no loyalty at all. If Rangers offered him the money, he'd go there, and say it's always been his dream to move to them.

McGeady never seems to play to amazing for Ireland, not sure why to be honest.

McGeady not being liked by his own set of supporters is nothing new, the abuse he took in Scotland from his own supporters was a disgrace.

Not sure about Robbie Keane tbh, always thought he was well liked by the Irish.

I dont know why the 'supporters' can say they dont like them..

Keane was carrying an injury into that russian game and should have been subbed off near the end as he was a ghost out there..

and as for McGeady, i thought he actually had a good game.. better than most of the games he played while at celtic. yes he made a few mistakes towards the end, but that would have been the pressure..

The amount of abuse Keane takes from every angle is ridiculous.

Who GAF if he panders to the fans of every club he's played for? He does the business on the pitch, especially for the Republic. They have been blessed to have a true world class performer at his best.

i'd argue keane's move to mls hurts that argument. MLS caps salaries well under what he had at Spurs. There is also no way he is getting anything like the advertising $$ Beckham has gotten for himself (Keane is not nearly as big a name for the average MLS fan as Becks. Landon Donovan or even Tim Howard has better name recognition over here).

If he were solely concerned bout money, why not go to a UAE team like everyone else has been doing lately.

if he was so concerned about money .. why not stay at celtic, when everyone wanted him too.

but aside that ..keanos a top finisher , one of the best to grace the English premiership and irish national team .

McGeady always took a lot of stick from the RTE commentators and studio panel because he played in the SPL. Had he have been in an EPL teams squad but not playing he would have been good enough. RTE see very little football life outside the EPL.
This negative attitude toward McGeady and highlighting his errors would have rubbed off on many fans.

In club football, I dislike Robbie Keane.
In International football, both Aiden and Robbie represent my country. Therefore, I will support them.

Never heard anyone hate on Keane. Not sure where you've came across this. The only football fans I've heard having a disliking for Keane were Liverpool fans, which was unfair, IMO.

As for McGeady, a lot of people think he's overrated and he really doesn't do himself any favours by his performances in an Irish shirt.

Or y'know, his errors are actually worth noting...which they are! Dribbling and pulling off tricks just outside your own penalty box is sheer idiocy. He almost cost us the game in Moscow.

He needs about 3 chances before he buries one. One of the reasons I don't like him but i'll support him when he has my nations jersey on.

Never heard of that. Robbie Keane is respected massively by Irish fans but I think what you are noticing the past while is Robbie Keane not be being good enough to start for the Irish team. When he does start, fans are expecting far too much out of him when he hasn't got it anymore. Time for Stokesy to be put in the team but Trap doesn't realise this. I respect Keane hugely. He has had a brilliant career but sadly that career is coming to an end

Kevin Doyle should be starting up front on his own. It's time the torch was passed on. Niall Quinn had to do it before him, now it's his turn.

I am referring to his early career with Ireland when the RTE panel seemed to hope McGeady had a bad game and then took great pleasure in slating him.
They were of the opinion that because he played in the SPL he was not good enough to play fir Ireland.

Nah, I think that was in terms of making a full evaluation of the player as an Irish prospect. It's really hard to tell whether a player is good enough to play international football, based on the SPL. For example, Goodwillie only got his first competitive start for Scotland there in mid-week, despite a serious dirth of quality strikers in Scotland.

But when McGeady started playing for Ireland he had played in the CL. He also was playing for the SPL champions rather than a provincial team. The real problem I had with them was that they did not give him a chance. Their comments also put additional pressure on him.
