Having just had the opportunity to watch yesterdays game, I was a bit disturbed at the amount of empty seats we saw in the stadium.

In short, where have the fans gone?

Are many of them now considering the league a foregone conclusion? Is it only the Champions League that fans are interested in now?

An attendance of 47,000 was given for yesterdays game, which isn't bad, but considering it was a Saturday game it's not the best, is it?

Are we seeing a decrease in attendance at league games slowly set in as the competitive edge is lost as to who wins the title now?

What worried me most reading your post was the fact that my initial reaction was that you were being a bit pedantic, and that 47,000 was a decent attendance and not one worth complaining about. It's become the norm now that anything over 75% full is a plus. Shouldn't be that way. On the flip side though, maybe we shouldn't have got used to the near sell outs we got every week under O'Neill, in light of the attendances before that. Ultimately I think it's a variety of things; product isn't as good as it once was, not just for us but in Scottish football generally, economy isn't as good, people have to pick and choose more in terms of domestic and CL games, plus of course the league is a foregone conclusion.

I'd say 47k was pretty good considering the circumstances. Not a lot of money going about these days plus, as you said, we have no competition.

Also, you have to look at the team as well as a reason. We play utter guff football 75% of the time, why should people be paying ridiculous money to watch that pish?

Yes, I know it's been done to death, but ticket prices up here are scandalous.

Lack of quality on show and lack of competition = Lack of fans.

Daibhi - I was there yesterday and the product on show is shocking. With the winter weather coming in I think there will be less fans going in the near future. We are NOT a good team to watch. A lot of season ticket holders will not go to every game. I would say there was closer 40k there yesterday. No way was there 47k in the stadium.

I don't know if it was picked up on tv but at the game the lower 15-20 rows were getting soaked in my section and everyone moved up the back end of the stand.

Not because Celtic were playing and you're a supporter? People who would choose to stay in the pub because of a bit of rain when they can actually make the game are fuds.

This is exactly the reason, now we can't do much about the lack of competition but we should surely be able to do something about the quality of football we play, we are only going to get fans back if we start playing an open, attractive, attacking style of play.

I hate missing games. I think I've missed one home league game in the past three seasons. If quality of football is all that matters, go watch Bayern or Barça on the tele. The competition is fine... yes, we'll win the league but we're still pushed in league games. The quality of football from United yesterday was excellent. We maybe weren't at our best but they made it difficult for us & not by sitting with 10 men behind the ball. For the next couple of seasons at least we're all but guaranteed a shot at Champions League qualification & the Huns should be in the Premiership soon enough for those who can't turn out to support their club without a title challenge.

Ach you know what? I used to have that mindset as well.

But when push comes to shove, who the * are any of us to question people who buy tickets for the games, or who attend matches?

If someone buys a ticket, they have as much right to be there as anyone else.

Forgot about that. Lucky if there was 40,000 there. When we scored there was probably only 25,000 left in the ground. * hate people who leave early because of "traffic" or because the game's not going our way. Stay home & watch it on TV then.
