What would Sylvinho add to our squad?

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by greg2467, Oct 21, 2008.

  1. Barcas Sylvinho has "opened the door to a move to Celtic"

What would he add to our squad?

I no that he has pace and is better than naylor but would he add enough to the squad to be more competetive in the CL next year. LB is our weakest position. At 34 he's probably only got 2-3 yrs left in him lyk...

Also how much would he cost? I assume that it would have to be a free transfer.

  2. The average age of the squad

Nah I reckon he would do a better job than Naylor, plus he has tons more of experience. As long as its a small fee we pay I wont be complaining.

  3. he would bring alot of experience to the team as alot of players (mainly the younger players in the team) would benefit from this. it would be nice to see if other players see his move to celtic and would alert them to maybe consider a move as he would be a good player to look to.

And someone who can play LB!!! a deal worth doing!!

  4. Experience and that would be about it, but right now i would take any LB plus if its a free transfer then we should go for it.

  5. Experience, Talent, and can actually defend and go forward.

  6. * - in there with my joke first!

I'd be delighted to see him here until the end of the 2010 season. I also think it will happen.

  7. Syvinho is a great player, I can't wait to see a left back that can play a pass out of the defence instead of Naylors hit and hope. I know he set up a goal at the weekend but think about how many more goals we could score if we get someone with a decent cross, we create lots of space down the left hand side and Naylor just humps it out all the time. Sometimes I start crying when he does it.

  8. Was going to mention the age thing but then i thought about Telfer who was around 34 when he signed. As long he has kept himself fit he would give the competition to Naylor that he needs.

You took the words out of my mouth there, I would be hesitant in signing a 34yr old, like I was hesitant with Telfer, but he did do a job for us at RB for a while.

I take this LB would just be a temporary fix at LB?

  9. I've said it in the other Sylvinio thread, if he plays well here for 2 years then that is great. How long does the average player spend at Parkhead? 3 years maybe?

If a player can improve the side then sign him. Obviously if it were a toss up between him and a guy just as good ten years younger you wouldn't, but we've hardly been dripping in left back tranfer target speculation have we?

If a player has looked after himself then there is no reason why he cant play on until he is 36. In his position i'm thinking of Cafu, Maldini, Roberto Carlos and (to a lesser extent) Telfer, or Mr Larsson is another prime example. Would anyone have complained if he resigned for us at 34?

  10. Lets not get over excited guys....the small matter of wages.
They all say would love to come to celtic and then we talk money and then the bubble pops.:31:

  11. I doubt he'd be on silly money. Spain isn't the EPL and we could afford Hinkle's wages.

He was at Arsenal before and they always had a strict wage structure and i don't think Barca will have been shelling out millions on their 2nd/3rd choice left back.

  12. A bit of experience is always good.

  13. A better option at left back

  14. a better player at left back and a lot of experience in the european game.

Couldve been doing with a player like him tonight

  15. Callum McGregor

He would do really well in the SPL and add experience in Europe.
I'm sure he could chip in with a couple of goals as well.

  16. It would give Gordon Strachan a brazilian.

  17. thank you for that image:52:

  18. We've quite a young squad and Sylvinho would add a huge amount of experience to it.Even at 34 he's still got a good turn of pace[rememeber him bursting past Brown to set up Xavi's goal in the Nou Camp last season?].He wouldn't be afraid to overlap and has a decent cross. It would also give us more time to try and find the perfect LB for the future for us instead of rushing out and buying one that's not quite suitable simply because we can't have Naylor in there any longer.

  19. someone that can pass to someone he recognises instead of 'Tosh McKinlying' it up the line at every opportunity
