A mate of mine swears by it and said you cant get viruses and it doesnt slow down after a while like windows,, but a couple of people have told me its awkward when it comes to downloading things. Whats the sytem requirements to run it if any?

Not sure of the exact requirements but they're lower than Windows XP. Its lightning quick. I use Kubuntu in college which is equally as good, my Vista was gone horribly slow and I have Wine which is a windows emulator. You have to be good with computers to get the real benefits like the command line but it is good, a little awkward but windows would be awkward if you were used to Ubuntu and switched over so its all relative.

Aye Unbuntu kicks * guys - Im a pro coder with my own source code out for Torrent sites, i make the code to make that possible and i run Unbuntu/Win 7 x64, my mates all use nothing but Unbuntu, excellent cos it uses the synaptics manager for installing anything you need or if your good from command line its so easy, Win always has issues in my world.

It can be a bit tricky if you've never used it before. It's a lot easier than it was though (seeing as all you have to do is use a built-in program called "Software centre" where you can essentially install all the stuff you need.

    Pros:
    Completely free
Faster than Windows (so if you have an old machine that's blowing out it's *, formatting the HD and installing Ubuntu might give it a new lease of life)
    Can do everything windows can

    Cons:
*EXCEPT* handle the latest games. I'd say, anything from the last 3-4 years Ubuntu simply cannot handle as games designers don't think about Ubuntu when creating their games.

    Conclusion:
If you're into games at all, Ubuntu is fairly useless. However, if you only use the PC for browsing the internet, listening to music/videos, social networking, office stuff then Ubuntu will be for you.

The software centre is deadly :50: would the latest games run on Wine? would Crysis 2 run? because Wine isn't an emulator, its an application layer. That makes it native to the machine and allows it access to windows DLL's

    I would doubt it.

I had huge trouble running games through Wine, even with an (at the time) fantastic machine running reasonably simple games.

Even FM10+11 wouldn't run properly through Wine and it refused to install patches.

I took thesen issues to the Ubuntu forums and they basically said what I've repeated in past posts - if you're planning on running the latest games then stick to Windows for hassle free gaming.
