Apparently that shining beacon of tolerance, sobriety and brotherly love, Andy "The Toalie" Goram is raging at a remark made at a dinner for a boys club.

I won't repeat it, but I think Mr. P. Martin may have hit a raw nerve. Too close to the bone eh Andy?

    Anyone else think so?

RANGERS legend Andy Goram has called in lawyers to investigate an alleged sectarian slur by TV football reporter Peter Martin, the Sunday Mail can reveal today.
The former Scotland goalie is furious over claims that Martin made a tasteless remark after he failed to attend a fundraising dinner.
Witnesses say the Sky man told 150 guests Goram could not be there because he was "out in Belfast shooting Catholics".
The former Ibrox star had pulled out of the event for St Peter's Boys Football Club in Paisley at short notice and had to be replaced by another speaker.
Now he has spoken to legal firm Peacock Johnston who have contacted guests at the event on February 26 asking for written statements.
Martin, 45, who was host for the night, is said to have made the remarks when he was introducing the top-table guests, who included former top referee Kenny Clark.
Goram, 46, last night refused to comment but an insider said: "Word reached him of what is supposed to have been said and he's livid. He can take a joke but thinks this went too far."
His solicitor, Andrew Pollock, of Peacock Johnston, in Glasgow, also declined to comment.
But we can reveal that a number of guests have been contacted by the firm to give statements about the speech.
Neither Martin nor his lawyer would comment yesterday but a guest who attended said: "He obviously meant it light-heartedly and nobody who was there seemed to take any offence. It was meant to be a joke."
The dinner was held at St Peter's Men's Club to raise cash for the boys' teams, who have 180 football kids ranging from eight to 16.
The club, which was founded in 1984, is situated close to a Catholic church of the same name.
Goram lives in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, where he helps run a pub frequented by Rangers fans. He is also a popular after-dinner speaker, often appearing with top criminal lawyer Donald Findlay QC.
Six years ago, the pair were accused of making jokes at Larne Rangers Club in Northern Ireland about the death of Pope John Paul II, the Vatican and Catholics.
They also allegedly mocked Scotland's anti-bigotry campaign. In 1998, Goram sparked controversy by wearing a black armband during an Old Firm game - after the murder of LVF terrorist Billy Wright. But he claimed it was in memory of his aunt, who died four months earlier.
At Rangers, he helped the club win six of their nine-in-a-row league titles between 1989 and 1997.
Goram was also an important player for the national team in the 1990s, winning 43 caps.
Martin, from Newarthill, Lanarkshire, works for Sky TV as an on-screen reporter and was a presenter and commentator with Radio Clyde for eight years.
His radio commentary on James McFadden's winning goal for Scotland against France in Paris in 2007 has become a YouTube classic.
Last night, a friend of Martin said: "Anyone who knows Peter knows that he abhors sectarianism and that for many years he has spoken out on the issue and has campaigned on this with school kids all over Scotland .

Andy Goram is a * low life scumbag and I hope he has a miserable future.

This is the main story taking up most of the front page in the Sunday Mail, meanwhile a wee side story tells us Neil Lennon has been the target of another bomb plot.

    Priorities right out the window.

The strong rumour here was, Goram was getting it for getting patriotic with a Loyalist prisoner's wife.

Peter Martin (McGuire), the man in question in the OP.

Changed his name from Peter McGuire to Peter Martin when he went into the media because Peter McGuire sounded too "Celtic-minded" apparently. He's a soup taking *.

Talking about stupidity, who the * thought it would be a good idea to invite Andy Goram to an event for St Peter's Boys Football Club ? It was never gonna end well given his support for bigoted, militant Protestants in the UDA.
