Thought he did a lot of good stuff tonight and a few stray passes. Well passed his best when moved out right.

Never going to be a world beater, but he's always been an intelligent player with decent pace and good work rate. Perhaps was just lacking confidence under Ronny?

Great energy in the middle of the park. He lost the ball but let's give him the benefit of the doubt: Since when has Armstrong been a holding midfielder? For most of his Celtic career he played as one of the top three, usually out wide. His reputation was not build on possession based football.

Demonstrates the need for a passing midfielder with energy.

SA on whether draw v @ICTFC in previous match frustrated Celtic: "Slightly, especially the way it happened up there last time."

SA: "Conceding late on was disappointing but our form in the league has been great."

SA: "We’ve been relentless and will look to do the same again at the weekend."

SA on recent form: "It has been good. It’s a change from last season with the style and tempo we play at."

SA: "There have been a lot of different changes to get used to but it has been, from a personal point of view, very good."

SA: "I’ve been learning a lot and my performances of late have been improving and I hope they keep doing so."

SA on recent praise from Brendan Rodgers: "It’s very complimentary and I’m thankful to him for making those comments."

SA: "I just want to keep working and learning and keep improving on my performances. That’s what I aim to do for the future."

FRUSTRATION was the lingering feeling for Celtic after they left the Highlands with a 2-2 draw in their last encounter with Inverness Caley Thistle, according to Stuart Armstrong, but the Hoops star has backed the Bhoys to settle the score when they meet again this weekend.

The Scottish champions have been almost unstoppable in the league, soaring to a nine-point lead with a game in hand after only 10 matches but the one blot on their copybook was that 2-2 stalemate at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in mid-September.

The Bhoys led that match 2-1 until the final minutes having dominated the game in the second-half but Alex Fisher’s late strike stole a point for the hosts in the Highlands, making Caley Thistle the only team in Scotland to have taken points from the Celts this season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side went on to win the following seven domestic matches, conceding just one goal and scoring 17, and Armstrong expects the Hoops to keep that excellent form going for the weekend.

“Slightly, especially the way it happened up there last time,” said the midfielder when asked if he was annoyed when the Bhoys dropped points against Inverness. “Conceding late on was disappointing but our form in the league has been great and we’ve been relentless and will look to do the same again at the weekend.”

Armstrong has been a standout performer for Celtic in recent weeks after working his way back into the starting XI under Brendan Rodgers.

Playing centrally has been one of the main reasons behind the former Dundee United star’s resurgence and he added that he hopes to keep his good run going.

“We had a talk at the start of the season about what’s expected from me and I’ve been trying to deliver that in training by working hard and I’ve managed to get some opportunities in the team,” he said.

“Taking those opportunities is important because we have a competitive squad and everyone wants to get in. It’s clear to see that’s my favourite position and where I feel I’m best in the team. That was one thing I’m more than happy about this season that the opportunity has arisen.”

Saturday’s 3pm kick-off at Paradise comes in the wake of Tuesday’s exhausting 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach in the UEFA Champions League, which saw the Bhoys play their third game in six days.

Armstrong admitted that the fixture schedule has been congested for the Scottish champions but said the manager has still found time to impart his wisdom on the training field and ensure the players are continuing to take onboard the Irishman’s tactics.

“It’s challenging fitness-wise with the heavy schedule but we had a good pre-season with a lot of high-intensity training sessions in developing that fitness and now I’m getting a bit more game-time, it’s match-fitness too,” he added.

“It’s difficult incorporating training into that as well when games are thick and fast and the time spent between games when they’re three days apart is more recovery rather than everything else so it’s about looking after yourself and making sure everything’s right for the next game.

“Perhaps the actual training sessions, when the games are thick and fast as they have been in the last few weeks, we have less time to do that, of course, but we still are all very aware tactically, we’re learning, watching videos on how he wants to play, and we’re still there.”

Always had his head screwed and obviously works his * off in training. I think him & Brown is the best partnership we'll get in midfield just now, Armstrong still has a lot to improve on but I think most of that is down to confidence in his own ability. As long as he keeps working hard on and off the pitch he will keep his place in the team.

Good interview that with Stuart. And confirmed what we all know, his favourite spot is central midfield, and he is relishing being back in the team.
    Solid build on him too.

glad he's proved a few people wrong this season.

  10. So am I.
And this midfield is already looking nailed on. Brown - Armstrong - Rogic.

    I can't take to him.

  14. I don't think so. Armstrong has always been a consistent player throughout his career, especially when he was a regular in a settled team with Dundee United. I can't see Biton getting back in now.
Now if you were talking about some headless chicken like Stefan Johansen I would say it was premature.

So do I, still has a lot of work to put in and prove he can consistently do it. He can't keep going through wee patches, he needs to stand up and be counted week on week.

I said when he signed he's the long term successor to Broony, I'm hoping he can still be.

I see more of Brown in John McGinn than I do Armstrong.
