I get that and for the most part it is correct. I only pointed out that Donegal bucks this trend and it is the north of Ireland geographically where the majority of Celtics support is rather than the 6 counties. Assuming you are talking of people that you have met outwith Celtic games then a big majority of those in the 26 counties would have little time for Celtic.

Initially I was not having a go at you just pointing out the error in your statement.

You cannae help yourself can you :giggle1:

You’ve basically backed me up that the southern folk don’t care as much as the northern folk.

Literally arguing when both making the same point

Was different years ago but the west brit mentality along with sky tv, they mostly follow EPL clubs now. To be honest though, they can follow whoever they like but i did find it strange that with our Irish connections id have thought there would be more of us here. But nowadays, the young ones dont give a flying * where your from and what you are. The irish identity doesnt matter to them. They are european more than irish.

My initial question was whether your use of the north of Ireland referred to the 6 counties or the geographical north. The county with the biggest % of Celtic supporters in Ireland is most probably in the 26 counties but also the north of Ireland. This is the clarity I was looking for and the point I was making.

I still don't know if you get where I'm coming from.

    Is it bad in Mayo?

I believe it is the Irish media that are doing their best to poison the Irish people against Celtic and promote the EPL. Any opinion piece on Celtic as a club or our support always paints us negatively. They like to portray us & the huns as just to sides of the same coin.

    Aye I meant Northern Ireland.

But I’m being serious when I say the catholic lads I knew from Derry and Belfast were mad tims whereas the Irish guys from Dublin, Limerick and a few other places I knew genuinely didn’t give a * about Celtic.

And other people have mentioned the same thing but you haven’t had a wee dig at them.

I wasn't having a dig. I was just trying to point out to you that our support goes all the way to the west coast. What you said was for the most part correct and is the generally perceived view. I was really only trying to make you aware of the error in this viewpoint.

Its not pleasant for us folk in this Celtic supporting corner of Ireland to be lumped in with the rest of the EPL fanboy on this island. Having said that even here our fan base is coming under increasing attack from those pushing the EPL. It's time Celtic as a club done more to win back their fanbase in Ireland. I sometimes wonder if they are quite happy with the dwindling support here so long as their corporate entity is doing ok

Living in Belfast I'm regularly told that I support Celtic because I'm "sectarian".

Nonsense from fan boys of the most overrated league in the world.

Definitely no stigma here in the US as you might imagine. If anything it's a 'cool' thing to support anything remotely tied to Ireland given this country's modern romanticization of Ireland and Irishness. It's all very funny too considering most of the "proud Irish Americans" I know are right wing * who know nothing of the history of Ireland or its anti-colonialist struggle and instead appropriate Ireland's customs to make themselves seem culturally interesting. But they sure wave that tricolor on St. Patrick's Day...

Nah I would say maybe more Northernly. Like tucked up in Ballycastle, Coleraine and Portrush. Obviously not anywhere that has borders and wouldn’t be considered North easterly south. Know what I mean jelly bean?:50:
