Celtic Switch Would Cause Chaos But Reignite Captain’s Career

Stephen McManus has been linked with a sensational return to Scottish football but this time not to his boyhood heroes but to their arch rivals Rangers. The big defender has fallen out of the picture since his move to Middlesbrough and this could lead to the Ibrox side snapping him up for free this summer.
Stephen is known as Mr Celtic and has captained the side to 3 League Championships,2 League Cups and 2 Scottish Cups which is not a bad record. The Scotland defender fell out of favour with then Celtic boss Tony Mowbray. When Tony arrived at the club Stephen was then sold to Middlesbrough where he linked up with former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan.
Since his arrival at Middlesbrough he has never been able to cement himself in the side and this has seen him become surplus to requirements. This has alerted Rangers of his availability and the deal could benefit both parties. With Rangers currently in the market for a centre half as Davie Weir could be hanging up his boots and Madjid Bougherra touting himself for a return to the Premier League.
Stephen may not look at Ibrox as his ideal platform but he has to consider the facts that Celtic no longer require his services and he has fallen out of favour in teesside.
A to move the Scottish Champions would not only give Stephen first team football, it would give him a catapult back into the big time with the prospect of playing Champions League football next season.
