Did anyone else think it was massively satisfying to finally get through with a penalty, when we have been punished by blatant cheating so many times in the past (Arsenal and others). Also, is it just me or are our players becoming more aware of the "european" way - not saying they're cheating, but in the past I think we have been guilty of being too honest. I was loving Mulgrew toying with them at the corner near the end.

I think it is was one of those free-kicks in the box that are so often no given. That is to say it is was anywhere else on the park it was a foul 100% but in the box they sometimes arent given. Was a penalty in my eyes.

In a Domestic game I dont think it would have been given, but still a peno for me.

Yeah, I do think it was a penalty 100%. Just one of those ones that you see given all over the pitch in european games.

Never a penalty, if it had been against us I'd have been boiling! I'd have taken a goal in any way, shape or form last night though.

    too soft

= the penalty was too soft for me, i've never been a fan of these kind of pens, where a player runs into the opponent and goes down. The only satisfying thing is we dont tend to get them too often!
I also hate keepin the ball at the corner flag, - its not football.
Everything said i think we deserve to be in the last 16 :bbpd:

If you don't running down the clock or receiving soft penalty shouts I suggest you take up rugby as football mustn't be the sport for you :smiley-laughing002:

The penalty was too soft; I don't think I've heard, or will here, the likes again.

I'd have took going through under any circumstances last night, can't see where the criticism would come from for running down the clock. I disagree that it isn't football, it is a huge part of football. Being able to run a clock down when you are close to a big result is a skill in itself.

I really dont understand people saying it was a soft penalty. I'm not bias in any way but the guy comes running in at full force, Samaras sends him the wrong way and he mistimes his tackle, it's a penalty all day long.

Think it was a penalty, and foul anywhere on the park. Incidentally, they fouled us - 29 - times on the night, and I liked this referee because he wasn't the type to blow the whistle for every gust of wind.

When was the last time we got a penalty in the Champions League? Was it Aalborg?

    We got a break.

The only thing that matters now is that we're through. We are in the last 16.

No doubt about it, it was a soft penalty, but thinking back to Europa League last year, we went out in Udinese after not being awarded a stone waller. So, it's about time we got a big decision in Europe. Thoroughly deserved a bit of luck as well IMO after the campaign we have had.

It was a stonewaller. The guy steams into the back of Sammy, and you can see a bit of a trip there as well. But regardless, we deserve a bit of luck, as people have already said we've been done by dodgy penalty decisions before. Juventus 2001, Lyon 2003 and the one Udinese got against us at CP last season. Can't mind the one we weren't given away to Udinese last season though.

Only Celtic fans would go out of their way after a game to say they received a soft penalty! Last night we maybe got a ref that was actually a little intimidated by the roaring 60k atmosphere, usually we get a * of a ref that goes out of his way to show he is not intimidated and is actively bias against us.

I wonder why as well you lot are going on about this, because I will tell you one thing, we have been given FAR FAR worse penalties against us in Europe. So we where * long overdue one.

Sammy only did what every other player in the world would have did in his situation, it was no dive. He may have been looking for it but which player doesn't in the Champions League?

I forgot about the one Udinese got actually. Infact, Maldini got let off with one in the last 16 game in the San Siro as well. The one away to Udinese should have been given for a handball as well, quite late in the game if my memory serves me correctly.

Maldini got let off with two handballs in the box in 10 minutes.

Doesn't change the fact it was a soft penalty but a penalty nontheless and Samaras done astoundingly well to draw the tackle in and earn it.

It was a great first touch on the chest, I also think it was soft, but in no way was it a dive either. It was one of the ones where you would be raging if it was awarded against us.
