It’s seen as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions

Basically it’s a respect thing in Japanese society

I don't imagine many of us would know much, but is it often done for all players though? Or am I just being hopeful that he's a fan favourite and gonna live up to our video hopes?

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Shin Yamada is on the way to Celtic

The Japan cap is set to arrive in Scotland in the next 24 hours for a medical head of his £1.3m move from Kawasaki Frontale.

Rodgers will give Yamada a chance to stake a claim for the first team but he’s determined to add some serious firepower in the coming weeks.

The Hoops boss – who last night watched his side see off Sporting Lisbon 2-0 in Portugal – said: “He’ll have a medical over the next couple of days and we’ll have a look at him.

We’ve lost a lot of goals so we need to replace that. Hopefully this can be one of a number of players we can bring in that aspect.

“He’s got intensity and workrate. It’s something the scouts have seen.

In terms of the club, we will bring in players to develop and players for now. Even though he’s a bit older, he’s probably one of those that can give us that intensity and pressure.

“I need to look and see him when he comes in and hopefully he can do well. The idea was to bring him in and assess him.

“He’s a strong boy – but we’d want to add to our front line also.”

    Fair.
I like that about Asia/Japan though. The respect and pride is a good thing that we've lost too much in the traditional west.

Think this will turn out to be a very useful signing to be honest. Definitely looks like he has got a bit about him.

Wow - Rodgers sounds overwhelmed with this signing doesn't he? If there was ever a sentence that tells you there is a huge disconnect between manager and the scouting this is it.

Sounds like Rodgers is the issue. Inamura has looked class since he’s come in and no doubt that’s the same scouts that have identified yamada.

After Rodgers I think we need to have a coach who is willing to accept a modern system that players are bought to play within. Although Rodgers is willing to take a look at him in training it doesn’t sound very promising him saying there’s players that come in for the future and others that come in for the now. Yamada could be a gem! Who knows. Leave the pessimism til after you’ve seen him! :43:

Tbf its probably just him being realistic and tempering expectations.

Although these guys are mid 20s, in terms of experience they're still quite young.

He's always said that about players depending on their level of experience. It's a win win for him. Either they come in and turn out to be as expected (Raw) and need the loan and time to bed in, or they exceed expectations and its to his and the teams benefit.

It speaks to a totally dysfunctional recruitment system.

We should be signing these guys with a clear plan. Not, come in, we'll have a look then decide. That surely has to impact on other transfers.

Say he comes in, looks like R9 reborn, we then halt our talks with other clubs/strikers as we don't need another.

No wonder our recruitment seems to move at a glacial pace.

I have no idea how our scouting works. It isnt explained and our structure isnt clear. Rodgers referred to him as a "club signing" and implied he will get/need to have a look after signing was complete.

Hope he comes good. Just dont understand it

I think its clear to see now that we have the Tisdale transfers and the Rodgers transfers. I think that is a good thing as long as we see the Rodgers transfers coming in and i think Nygren was his judging by his comments.

Exactly, between the scouts and watching footage our recruitment system/strategy is slow.

I think he has looked at him or at least watched videos on him.

When he says 'take a look at him' or words to that effect, he's clearly talking about how he responds within our environment, in a different culture, different country, with different team mates, a different standard of league, a different way of playing, different way of training.

He said he had a lot of good attributes yesterday so he's clearly watched footage of him.
