Hey guys been told for my Higher English i should do a football related discussive/argumentative essay. I thought i should do an essay on the sectarianism between the two clubs and wether it is just banter for the 90 minutes or something deeper or if it has got any better over the years. Anyone know where i could get some decent resourses or anyone care to share some facts etc.

    Cheers

one thing is to consider crime in the towns and villages in and around the west of scotland after games- the ground and that seems safe enough.

    Watch documentaries, your best chance

Not as easy as that dont think im going to pass my higher English by rangers = scotlands shame. Maybe this isn't the best place for this question, although it is always going to be more in favour of celtic cant deny it happens both ways.

read the threads on here, and then go on Rankers media! It does happen both ways, but they are just so much worse! Scummy *! ..and they are ugly too its a fact.

Use newspapers, use The Huns history with UEFA etc, the media in general will give you good sources and facts . Don't make it too biased though:50:

I know its hard but try not to be bias, if your bias towards Celtic for example and a Rangers fan is marking it expect a fail.

Just look at the history of both clubs and thats a good place to start, the rest should flow after that. :50:

with regards to this essay, I would tread very carefully on your subject matter and your conclusions (regardless of any factual eveidence you may present)

you do not know who will be marking your paper and what their political and football affiliations are. If you are at an RC school, remember that all the teachers are not RC and that your higher papers get sent around the country to be marked by strangers. These same strangers, whilst working under guidlines to mark your grammer and structure, are people with strong emotive feelings too and they, at the stroke of a pen, can shape your future.

Sectarianism is a very touchy subject in this country, it does happen on both sides, i witnessed at Fir Park on Sunday as a recent example. We are not all shining beacons of impartiality and fairness, but we cannot ignore our inner feelings and also Scottish Government feeling which back up the feelings and beliefs that we are the minority and therefore are more likely to be on the receiving end of abuse

Sectarianism in the workplace still exists, but try proving it
Sectarianism in football is alive and kicking
    Sectarianism in everyday life exists

Bias in the media editorial slant, be it political or to whom their readership base is abhorrent but it there in black and white, but is it sectarianism? or is it blatant bias?

forgive me for asking young Celt, but is there another, less sensitive, topic which you could use to structure an essay about football? perhaps the build up to a big game? how about the impact of foreign players coming in which maybe deprives you and some of your friends a potential career in football? the role of television coverage in football? Your feelings about following the national team to a big game or dissappointment at not qualifying for a major tournament since you were 3/4 ?

please consider the subject matter carefully, your paper could land on the desk of a recently divorced, el dorado drinking, wife beating, july marching, hurting hun, who could red pen your future..................................

My English teacher is a Celtic fan so if I ever have to do this I should be fine, needed to do insparational figures and did Henrik Larsson and he loved it!

yes ,mr rogne but higher english papers get sent around the country for marking

would you want a paper on your ideas of bias landing on the desk of a hun in ayrshire or in fife?

    I wouldnt

Hmm having a think about it maybe it is best i do it on a subject a little less touchy. Although the marking system is pretty flawed when this can be allowed to happen but who am I to complain? This could prove difficult, still thanks for the help/advice so far.

Not to mention it will be getting marked around about the same time we win the league... the swelling of foreign players in our game seems like a better option to write about (both for & against)
