    * crazy money. Not that any player is worth that much but come on to *...just ridiculous money. I would have got rid of him and used that for someone better

Not only is it mental money but it's mental money on a guy who doesn't warrant anything near that kind of wage. He's definitely got some real talent, but the way he's made out to be a world beater capable of playing in any team astounds me.

He's good, but definitely not that good.

Isn't Ronaldo on this and Bale? Infact I think Ronaldo is on £330k but he merits that wage and no doubt brings Madrid in plenty of money and obvious success.

Overrated player, been underwhelming this season. Obviously pandering to him to stop him threatening to leave - thats all they would need just now.

He's on the downward slope in my opinion. He peaked during his early twenties up till a few seasons ago but now he's slowing right down, he looks unfit compared to the Rooney of a younger age as well.

Like Ronaldo he should be at the peak of his career at 28 but if anything he's getting worse. They'd have been better spending that on a few top quality midfielders and full backs. Even another striker. Instead they give it to the most overrated player in England and probably Europe.

Desperation tactics from United here, tying down their star man to a ridiculous contract because they know that they need to do something to keep their appeal if they fail to qualify for the CL this year.

And it's a stupid move all round, Rooney could easily get a move to a club in better shape than United currently, the money is absurd and the fact that it's only downhill for Rooney from now on as he's approaching 29 in October and I don't think he has the fitness levels or conditioning to stay at the top into his early to mid 30's.

Over-rated, never quite hit the level he was expected to, also always * with injuries these days.

Waste of money when that money could have be invested more wisely.

I believe his deal was running up in the summer, so perhaps not as bad as it seems. They're never going to recoup the amount they signed him for, even if they do intend to sell in the future.

Never understood that argument. He has more than fulfilled the promise he showed as a youngster. He carried Man Utd after Ronaldo left and before they signed Van Persie. I'm pretty sure he has averaged more than a goal every two games in the Premier League for them.

However he has completely flopped for England. He doesn't seem the same player in an England shirt.

During that period United won 1 title in 3 seasons and Rooney wasn't really that good in that title winning season. Also he hardly "carried" them.... as for not fulfilling his potential, you just have to go back and look at how hyped he was.... people genuinely expected him to be a match winning player, who'd consistently be up for Ballon Dors and wanted and feared by everyteam on the planet.... essentially he's Man Uniteds key performer, which is a decent enough accolade but not a player who'd walk into Bayern Munich or Barcelona, and he certainly doesn't send them trembling with fear either.

Great deal for Manchester Utd. To get the best player in the world signed up for a mere £300,000 a week is a real coup.

No doubt the Communists will be along shortly to point out how obscene it is for a footballer to earn that much money but who cares, * the poor. We should give more money to footballers, they're the ones who need and deserve it most.

I think a lot of folk expected him to have a much more sustained period of dominance as United's main player. Like I said, he peaked way too early, and is on the way back down imo. Think his recurrent lack of fitness, injuries and general play to an extent shows this. He was their main man up till Van Persie came in as you said, but after that their roles were reversed and Van Persie was the main man at United. Even with his arrival, he still should have been their main player but when someone of a similar/higher level appeared, his performance levels dropped dramatically and looked distinctly average in some games.

His attitude in Ferguson's last couple of seasons was questionable to say the least as well.

He can be world class but hes not that consistant, probably down to fitness, looks like he enjoys a kebab or two.

When he was younger he was quality like 18-25 since then I think he's lost sharpness and never consistnatly done the business over a season.

£300k is mental really, few players must be on that sort a money, he shouldnt be one of them.

That should be reserved for the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Toure, Suarez, Xavi, Bale, Iniesta, Vidal, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Thiago Silva, Ibrahimovic and that.
