What players do you wish stayed at the club as you thought they could still do a job barring the obvious ones like Larsson etc, I'm more talking under the radar players, one of my choices would be Ross Wallace always thought he was solid left back and was surprised we let him go he has made a good career in the Championship playing for a number of clubs in that division and also making a total of 36 Premiership apps with Sunderland and Burnley respectively.

Scott Mcdonald should never have been let go when he was but the Keane signing masked it

    Paddy McCourt & Tony Watt.

Neither were ever going to be first team stalwarts, but for the money they were making both were ideal options from the bench. Watt can hit the net, and Paddy always offered something different, even if it was only for maybe 30 minutes.

Agree Kayal left too soon Brighton fans rate him very highly since he joined them another was Tony Watt think he was really unfairly treated in his time here but I don't know exactly what went on behind closed doors.

Kayal wasn't playing well at all with us though and was constantly injured.

At the time it seemed like exactly the right decision, IMO. Not many disagreed.

    Aye definitely Kayal.

I'd take the likes of Kelvin Wilson, Ledley, Hooper etc. back in a heartbeat

TBF he never got a run in the team after his injury spell, it was bit part appearances here and there.

    So many over the years.

Stephen Crainey was a solid enough player, loved the club and could have done a job when we struggled for a LB for years. Lovely guy as well.

We shouldn't have * about with Jackie McNamara and let him leave as Strachan was joining. Could play in multiple positions and was a leader in the dressing room. Should have finished his career here.

Agree with the OP regarding Ross Wallace. He could play at LB, CM and LM. Very useful player.

David Marshall. I know we got Boruc in which is part of the reason Marshall left, but he could still have been our 'keeper today. Though we'd never have seen the best of Boruc, Forster or Gordon. We've been pretty blessed with keepers in the last 10 years.

Think we made a mistake with Sutton, Thompson and Hartson. We let them all leave pretty much for free. We should have either sold them at their peak, or kept them until the end of their careers. They all left under a bit of a cloud, which isn't really fitting considering what they did for us over a 4/5 year period.

Hartley and Robson. Massive part of the reason we won the title in 2008. They were at that stage in their careers where their experience would have been vital, and they probably wouldn't have expected to play every game.

Heid & Big Mick. As above, they were a very solid partnership. I think we probably could have done with keeping at least one of them at a time when we needed stability.

Skippy. Got good money for him, but he could have scored goals for another couple of seasons. Still, we might not have signed Hooper had he stayed.

Caddis and O'dea could both have developed into solid players for Celtic. They've had OK careers since, but we definitely could have developed them better.

Crosas could have been a lovely player for us, I just think he was a bit too small and slow at a time we were becoming a physical team again.

There've been a few in recent years, too. Like Maloney & Kayal if they wasn't permanently injured. I'm sure we'd have kept Samaras and Ledley but for the fact they must have been on about £25k a week.

Basically, if I was in charge we'd have a massive squad of players who could all 'do a job' :56:

Reading this forum you could easily fall into the trap of thinking football only started being played around 1995. :smiley-laughing002:
