Stilian Petrov looks set to become Martin O'Neill's first signing as manager of Aston Villa when the Northern Irishman is, as expected, named as their new boss this week.

The Bulgarian international shared a good relationship with O'Neill when he managed Celtic and helped the player grow to become the quality player he is today.

Now O'Neill and Petrov will be hoping to re-unite in time for the start of the new Premiership season.

But Celtic will be holding out for £6-7 million for Petrov - money they hope can finance deals for a much needed striker and left back.

Also heading south is winger Ross Wallace.

The 21-year-old will train with Birmingham City this week after being given permission to find a new club.

O'Neill knows the value of Stan and hopefully will offer the correct amount, which will ensure that the transfer can go through quickly.

Not impossible, if O'Neill did take over at Villa I would be surprised if he didnt enquire about Stan.

Sooner he goes the better if you ask me. He's a good player but of he doesnt want to play for Celtic then so be it. They should sit him down and show him videos of Bertie Auld, Bobby Murdoch, Paul McStay etc and then let him see.

Good luck though to wee Ross Wallace - gave 110% all the time for Celtic just hasnt worked out for him. Hopefully he gets offered something at Birmingham.

hopefull MON if he wants him that badly will cough up 7million for him then... if he wants him that bad that is... hardball time =).. as much as MON was a great celtic manager .. he will get no favours in this petrov deal if he tries to sign him for wichever club MON goes to.. i suspect as a new manager he will have a substantial amount to spend also ... as celtic are only doing whats right and giving the correct Valuation for Petrov..

If MON joins villa wich seems a certainty then say bye bye Stan. Only good point is he has said of stans worth on record and would not make himself look bad by putting in a underpriced offer:50: :50:

Petrov is a good player, but for the life of me I cant nor ever could see how Tic fans see him as being a great player, or some will even say world class.
He is a hard worker, competitive, but he cant finish verywell, never ever had verygood peripheral vision, I have said this for seasons, let me sort of put it in a nutshell, so to speak, as it were, to coin a phrase, after watching the Kilmarnock 4-1 game tonight my time, Petrov is not near as good a fitba player as Nakamura, now HE is a star!

If MON:notworthy does take charge of Aston Villa then lets hope he makes a very good bid of around £6-7million for Petrov coz MON knows Celtic need as much money as they can get for there players:ynwacelti :ynwacelti +MON also knows Stan is WORTH THAT!!EASY(I think MON will get at least£10-15million to spend on new players if he joins Aston Villa!)

If we sell Stan for around 7 million then we could buy Tymoschuck. With Jarosik and Tymoschuck in the centre of midfield with Naka and Maloney on the flanks we'd have good attacking and defensive ability in the middle of the park

O'Neill will take over as Villa Boss either Friday afternoon, or early monday morning. With the £'s being pumped into the villians by their respective suitors, say Bye bye to Stan "i dont wanna play no more" Petrov and Alan "big pockets" Thompson.

Stan will be missed, but like all good things, it must end sometime, i expect him to sign for around £5.2m and Thommo to join him for around £300,000, giving the bhoys £5.5m to split 75% in the bank and 25% on new players.

Again, im just summising, but we've been told for years the days of £5-6 on players is gone, not to be seen until we join the EPL or we start a eurpean league (not likely).

I want to see a Nike Friday, as we are screwed in Europe otherwise bhoys, not being pessimistic, just realistic.

Stan has been a good player over the years for the Celts, but he now wants to leave "to further my career" (believe that if you like) please do not insult our intelligence with those well worn player cop out statements Stan. Petrov wants some big bucks in his pocket, and why shouldn't he?... Goodbye, * bless and good luck to him.

I think this Jarosik fella could make us forget Stan the Man before too long. He looks an excellent signing and already has shown us even this early that he is well capable of striding into the opposition box from deep and having a shot at goal........I am really excited at the prospect of watching this guy strut his stuff in the hoops this coming season. Yes I agree, and I think Jarosik has the potential to be a better all around player than Petrov, however that be as it may, I am noticing we Celtic are getting further behind Rangers in regards to a viable squad, daily it seems they are getting stronger, and again where the * are we going?
This game against Hearts Sunday will tell me more, we are living a pie in the * sky scenario, or should that be Sushi in the * sun? :87:

Hubert the Rangers squad is certainly getting bigger but quantity does not necessarily mean quality or that thier squad is stronger than ours.

The Hearts game will give us more of an indication of how we will fair this season. I am optimistic if we had to go the rest of the season with the team we have now and no other new additions then i think we have a squad capable of retaining the SPL title......We wouldnt get past the group stage of the CL though. I think with one or two decent signings we could get past the group stages and then..........who knows? For Europe we need an old head at the center of defence, i think the CL could find McManus and Caldwell as a central pairing wanting if that's who we are going in with......If Big Bobo is still out. We need a strong target man up front to hold the ball up in those European games. We do need a left back badly BUT an old head organising the defence is much more of a priority with regard to the champions league.....We have managed this far in the SPL with what we have so far. * *, goodness f*cking gracious, ffs, where in my post did I say bigger or quantity?
I said viable and stronger, and I will add to that they have new good players that are quality or soon will be, Adam is good, Sionka is good, this new guy Venglos said he was good, then the kid from Man U played well against Celtic, and I dont care what you might think I bet he ends up * good, I dont know where your thinking is, but Celtic are lagging behind and the f*cking league has started and this makes me uncomfortable.
Having the * people that run Celtic I certainly understand that! :47:

Hubert take it easy.....pour yourself a glass of water or try breathing into a paper bag or something. By the way that more "Viable" and "stronger" Rangers team are as i type this, struggling to cope with Dundee United at home .......it is 2-2 at the moment. wanmadtim:34:
