Celtic are being linked with Roman Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent in today's Daily Record.

After losing out on Lafferty, Strachan has turned his attention to both these players.

Either one of them will cost us something in the region of 10 million. Although I would love to see either come to Celtic, I doubt it would happen! WGS ain't going to spend that much on one player considering there are a few other positions that need to be filled too.

would take the Russian guy but Bent's far too overrated and knowing Spurs and the premiership they would demand at least 10 mill for a guy thats yet to prove his worth in the premiership with Spurs.

:50: Agree with that Jeannie although more than one would maybe give a great chance in Champs League next year. The russian guy would cost us about 8 mill plus to sign him though

Have said for over 2 years (not on this site though) that Roman Pav would be an awesome signing. Just a shame he'll cost double what he would have back then.

Undoubtedly still worth 8 mill though - an awesome player who would score a bucket load.

As for Bent - no chance. Would rather have Novo (not really, but the thought of spunking a fortune on him makes me feel sick). Keep your distance Strachan...

I'd take either to be honest if we get them for a good price - which isn't mentioned in the article at all when I read it, hope it's not just rumours and has substance at least.

Bent would probably be a loan.

Pavlachenko must be 8 million at least a lot of cash to splash. The boy has got some real qualities could be a superstar. A wee question mark over his work rate and attitude though.

If there is truth to this story it´s great to see some ambition.:50:

Darren bent, would be amazing up here pace to burn and the lad can finish would also be top class for away games in champions league having some one with raw pace to go the defence and push them back , Problem will be he is meant to be on around 80 k a week unless thats paper talk i have a mate whos a spurs fan and says they have a wage cap of around 55k a week , Maybe a loan deal with option to buy him would be ideal.

Roman Pavlyuchenko, is top class and would be the best all round striker we have been linked with it a while hes young enough and is strong and has pace Like Wgs said the lad's got it all , 10million euro's is meant to be his price but , Real Mad, Sevilla,Barca all meant to be looking at him so we would have to move fast,

Alexander Frei , is a class player but hes around 29 and has been starting to pick up more and more injuries we cant afford to take the risk on some one like this ,class as he may be i think the two options we have above are better and would suit us more ,

Come one Board let's get one top striker in and make the huns brick it ,

Bent would be a great signing he has not even been that bad at tottenham and has all the attributes to be a brilliant signing and is just 24, his goals per game ratio is great. He is one of the worlds highest players and a loan deal with us paying a chunk of that will be the only way we will get him he would have to probably more than half his wage. This would be a deal just like the bellamy one and bent would have something to prove. I will be chuffed if we can bring him in

This excites me purely for the fact we all know what sort of financial outlay would be required for each of them! The Daily Record are usually a decent marker as to where we are in the transfer market as well historically.

I feel that there is no def interest in these 2. I would love to get 1 of them but lets face it if We signed everyone WGS said was good at the euros we would have a very hefty wage bill.

Bent would be an awesome signing but we will only get him on loan at best but if he is available on loan why not to another EPL team for experience.

B4 we get excited lets wait for bids to be tabled.

I really dont think we have a problem with the league next season. how many strikers do the dark ones have now? LOL Its beyond a joke. Especially now that no body wants cousin I cant believ they got rid of Seeeeeeeebo ha ha ha ha

I doubt we'll sign Samaras if we manage to pull one of these 2 out the bag, Big Jan has already stated he'll be here next season and it wouldn't surprise me if he and Skippy continued what they started last season!

Meanwhile, Celtic are reported to be lining up an audacious loan bid for out-of-favour Spurs striker Darren Bent.
The London club shelled out £16.5m for Bent last summer, but the England international has failed to live up to the price tag and is keen to kickstart his career elsewhere.
Celtic would need to offload Bobo Balde and Thomas Gravesen from the wage bill to afford the 24-year-old.
Spurs are looking to recoup at least £12m for the striker, which is outwith Celtic's reach, however a loan deal would pave the way for Bent to spend at least a season with the SPL champions.
Celtic's record transfer fee for a striker was £6m for Chris Sutton whom Martin O'Neill signed, but the capture of Bent would be a significant coup for the club who have just been pipped to the signature of highly-rated Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty.
Swiss captain Alexander Frei remains on the radar despite the injury that ruled the Dortmund striker out of Euro 2008 and it has also been suggested that Spartak Moscow's Roman Pavlyuchenko is another who is attracting the attention of Gordon Strachan.
Pavlyuchenko scored in Russia's 4-1 defeat by Spain last week but he first came to Celtic's notice when he scored in both legs of their Champions League qualifier against Spartak Moscow last August.

That's the article from the evening times
