Artur Boruc is the target of a summer transfer move from Greek side Olympiacos, according to reports in his homeland and in Greece. Boruc has one year left to run on his contract at Celtic and the Champions League last 16 participants are hopeful that factor will sway the Glasgow side into selling him at a reduced price.
The Erythrolefki, who came second in this season’s the Greek Super League by six points this season to rivals Panathinaikos, are said to be keen to bring in an experienced goalkeeper to replace 39-year-old Antonios Nikopolidis.
Nikopolidis, who was Greece’s goalkeeper when they won the Euro 2004 championship in Portugal, will not be kept on beyond the end of the season. Loan keeper Rafael Pardo is due to return to Rapid Bucharest, leaving only 23-year-old Leonidas Panagopoulos.
Boruc has been Celtic’s current number one goalkeeper since his arrival from Legia Warsaw in 2005, making 207 appearances in five seasons.
A series of personal matters back in Poland, including the death of his father, have restricted his first team opportunities in recent months and his compatriot, Lukasz Zaluska, has stepped comfortably into the role in his absence.
The managerial situation at Celtic for next season remains unclear and Boruc’s future could well be decided by interim boss Neil Lennon, who has promised to sweep the decks at the club after a season without success in all five competitions entered.
Boruc is thought unlikely to be one of the players for the chop but the Hoops may be tempted to sell the 30-year-old rather than lose him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
His international career has been on hold since March 2009 after he was dropped from the Poland squad after a high-profile error in a 3-2 defeat away to Northern Ireland.
Manchester United keeper Tomasz Kuszczak has been preferred in recent games, with Arsenal’s Lukasz Fabianski and his team-mate Zaluska also in contention.

    * sake, When I saw Olympiacos I got excited coz I thought they were after samaras! If they want Boruc we should definitely look at Mellberg as part of the deal. The guy would be a massive improvement on what we have.

I think the only way Boruc would leave is if Celtic asked him too. Which does amaze me in a way since he has had to play behind an incompetent talentless defense for years. He must be frustrated beyond belief.

would only let him go for 4-5mil but want him to stay and get a solid defence in front of him and then we will be ahrd to beat but too many time over the last 3-4 years his defence have let him down......hes had a few * ups but what keeper hasnt

he just won save of the season

Big players will probably have to go if the new manager wants to spend money - the board probably wont be giving much away.

He's in his last year of a biggish contract - so an offer of 5million would probably see him & his biggish wages offski.

Zaluska is a fine keeper to have as replacement. If Artur doesn't sign a new deal, I'd punt him.

Aye punt our best player for 5 million, very good. When people are wanting to accept no less than 8 million for Mcgeady who is nowhere near as consistent or talented.

He could do better than them, im sure he would choose us rather than go if they are the only option.

So you just choose to ignore the part about being in his final year of contract?

We punted Caldwell for 1million in January & Robson for 500k.

Aye, let's go for that again.

    Tonto.

I want him to stay... should be captain in my opinion. I also think we are unlikely to command a high fee as he only has one year left on his current deal.
