Oh Hyeon-gyu

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by Notorious, Jan 25, 2023.

  1. 8 goal involvements for him now... in 434 minutes played.

Which I think works out as a goal involvement every 54ish minutes.

Utterly * bizarre talent and is on a long list of random players I've taken a liking to whilst here but never really did anything with us. Like Sno, Crosas to a degree, Ross Wallace (mixed with being a youth product) and loads of other players of that ilk

Fine margins in football make all the difference.

I've often thought, if that shot of Oh's had gone in at Ibrox, instead of hitting the post, Oh would have gone from Zero to Hero.

    Fine margins indeed.

He was just a bit raw, lacked composure and was over eager..

I wanted him loaned out, but it was probably the correct decision to take the fee.

Was a lovely little effort that. If it crept in off the post it would've been fawned over as a stunner.

Think he was actually a little put off with McCrorie flapping and falling about like a * trying to come out for the ball.

I think you are right. McCrorie put him off with those shenanigans. Would have made Oh I think.
He could have feasted off that goal for ages.

I've said it before but I think Rodgers was far too quick binning him, still has plenty of development in him and even taking the disparity of their fees out of it I'm still not convinced Idah is an obvious upgrade.

I what will be interesting is if Genk loss their main man up top Tolu Arokodare, do they give Oh a shot at being their main man?

Or is it like the role he had at us? Where he is trusted to be an impact sub but not a regular starter? He is also a streaky player, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets a couple of other goals in the next few appearances then has a gap again.

There’s definitely something about him but it also felt like something was missing too.

Hopefully he keeps scoring as the fee we got for him was pretty much split between roughly what we paid for him back and then close to the same again based on add ons so scoring goals will likely be a performance based metric to trigger those as well as appearances.

It was the right call to move him on, even with Idah's form this season.

Very strange though that now, even at genk he’s only getting the same 10-20 mins a game at most. Wonder if he doesn’t really show much in training?

I really liked him, was strong and quick plus decent with ball at feet. He never got a fair shot at it and Idah hit the ground running on loan. A loan would of been good for him but hard for the club to turn down £4.5M for a fringe player.

Yeah I thought there was a player there , I honestly think that there’s not much of a difference between him and idah and if I was to choose I’d lean towards oh

Good for him. He was ok, but it was the right decision to move him on.

Funny stat, that’s a good example of stats can be meaningless without the context of it, Oh has the best goals to minutes record for a player with 15 plus appearances in our history

Banging them in at Genk now - goal every 56 minutes. Always liked him, don’t think Idah is any better personally and double the fee. Good to see he has learned to find space in the box rather than trying to wrestle the nearest defender.

Oh never scored any important goals, a lot of his goals were us already being 3 or 4 up. Something like one winner or equaliser in his whole spell.

Scored a couple of winners at least. One against St Mirren and another to put us in the lead against Hibs.

If you are second striker at Celtic almost guaranteed when you come on that we'd be in front :39:

I think the moment he hit the post one on one against Rangers in the Ibrox end of season game we ultimately lost was a massive moment in his Celtic career.

He had put together a reasonable scoring run around that time and that going in and getting a goal vs them would have been a big deal, we had just gone 1-0 down and would have hit back immediately.

His role at Genk is the same as he had there he comes on at the end of games and he seems to have had a couple of scoring streaks. I hope he does well as there was significant add ons in the sale to Genk that made up the €5m fee he was sold for.
