    Do you have a list, ILTC? :icon_mrgreen:

    I just want to see if there have been more good ones than bad ones. This isn't a thread for debating whether the number should be reserved for good players.

    The number should have been retired after Larsson but it wasn't, so * are more than welcome to ask for the number 7 shirt.

    People never really had squad numbers until about 20/25 year ago, they wore the number that was seen as the number of their position in the team although some players mostly ended up always wearing the same number after it became associated with them.

    Johnstone
    Provan
    Di Canio
    Larsson
    Zurawski
    McDonald
    Keane
    Miku
    Ciftci

    I think are the players who had the sqyad number or usually always wore it. A lot of other did at times though Johnny Doyle, John Coulqhoun, Joe Miller, Brian O'Neill although Doyle I think mostly wore number 11 and Joe Miller wore a few numbers probably equal amounts.

    I think it should have been retired after Henrik.

    It wasn't though and we just chucked it around to a good few players both good and bad but never 'special'. As I said in the other thread if the club really felt that special about it, then we should have put it back in the drawer after Larsson.

    Just a number now at the end of the day. Upto Ciftci to hopefully prove alot of * wrong. Doesn't matter if he is wearing 7 or 99 though really, lets be honest.

    A lot of other players will have worn it the odd time though like Dalglish, Macari, Nicholas, McClair although they probably wore all the shirts numbered 7/8/9/10 and 11.

    Jinky made his debut in the number 8 top and Larsson in the number 12.

    I honestly wish we could go back to the days when the numbers were only on the shorts.

    You'd be there all night probably if you wanted to name everyone who wore it. Probably aout 50 players will have wore it in the last 50 year... from the likes of Darren Jackson, Brian McLaughlin, Peter Grant, Simon Donnelly to the likes of Dalglish, Larsson, Di Canio, Jinky. Only forwards/midfielders from 65-90 who probably didnt wear it would have been centre-midfielders or the main strikers who only played up front Chalmers, Deans, McBride.

    Infact there Stevie Chalmers even wearing it...

    Couldn't care less who has the number 7 to be honest I just like players having low numbers. I wouldn't mind a return to the 1-11 system
