Barca, City, and even Gladbach have top, top midfields. It's where a game is won and lost, and Bitton and Brown in the middle won't win games for us like I believe a McCarthy-Brown pairing could have at least contributed to victories massively. So my question is, how do we combat our weaknesses with the players we have? Who do we pick for midfield to try and offer protection to the back 4 which we so desperately needed in the form of a new player, but who we are gonna have to pick from the deadwood/youngsters?

I would go with a Brown-Ajer pairing. I believe he is no worse than McGregor, Armstrong or Bitton (who is utter *, imho worse than the other 2), and he can only get better with big game experience. He has shown in glimpses why he was so highly rated in Norway. I know many will say he's too young, but what does age matter when it comes to ability?

Tbh in Israel, Bitton was actually the best out of a bad lot in that area.

Him and Brown just don't go.

Tbh, in the centre of midfield it's Rogic and the rest I couldn't give a * if they left tomorrow. They needed a DM and possibly another midfield who can get about and at least pass the ball.

Thankfully we look a lot better going forward, defensively we're still * and the midfield is pitiful, tbh, we're only really 1 player new from that * pitiful performance against the * over the water who absolutely owned that centre of midfield.

Whilst I can't see it, if anyone can Celtic can.

A two man midfield would get ripped apart by those teams regardless. We'll probably have to have an extra body in there anyways. I'd go maybe Ajer, Brown and Bitton. Can't be arsed with McGregor and Armstrong.

Bitton and Brown deep with Rogic further forward.

I've said it before, if we don't sign another DM this window why don't we consider converting Sviatchenko into a DM, as I think he has all the right attributes to be able to make that move. It would leave Toure,Lustig, and Jozo rotated as the first pick CB's,and Gamboa could slot into the RB spot.

Brown and Sviatchenko look a much stronger midfield pair than Brown and Biton to me.

I wonder if Brendan is thinking of this exact move ?.

Our midfield is nowhere near good enough.

We will need every single player to be on top form, a bit of luck and total determination to even get a single point in the CL.

We're in trouble with this midfield.

Could be a zero pointer group for us.

We needed a midfielder like broony, but better. Strong experienced, and skillful.

Instead we have a shaky midfield with and inexperienced new Right Back, an ageing Kolo toure who has yet to gel with the team, and a new striker who gets 15 mins a game.

Sending the bhoys into the lions den for a paycheck.

Football is money and business, its not even about the ambition to win.

    Gamboa--------------------------Tierney

    Brown Biton

    Rogic

    Sinclair

    Dembele

Is how I'd line up away.

It looks kind of weird there but Sinclair would kind of float about and drop back into midfield slightly when defending.

Tierney and Gamboa would be relied upon heavily to provide width. Went for Dembele over Griffiths due to his physical presence and running power. Griffiths will be a greater threat under the lights at Parkhead.

Essentially a 5-4-1 without the ball, 3-5-2 on the break.
