Seems that McManus is becoming the new scapegoat for this season.

I personally dont feel he is anywhere near as bad as the bandwagon that is starting to pick up steam is making him.

BUT

I think the folk who are calling for him to be dropped and stripped of the captaincy are missing one massive point.

McManus is the player that Strachan has placed his faith in as his leader. There is more chance of Elgin City winning the European cup than there is of Strachan dropping McManus. Strachan is not one to admit he has made a mistake, even if he believes it himself, just look at his faith in Guys like Donati etc that he has brought to the club and have turned into embaressments. He wont ship them as he would see it as an admission of failure.

Long story short, in my opinion, McManus is here to stay as both a first choice centre half and also Captain.

i agree with you saying that he is here to stay i think we all know that but the bhoy is playing mince maybe its possible the captaincy is having a negative effect on him compared to it helping players step up their game when they get the armband, maybe its the pressure or something.

He's in a bad spell at the moment but he's a good no-nonsense defender.

He wouldn't be my choice as captain though.

Yep, Mick is definately the new scapegoat around here

Hes a solid defender, its annoying the way so many people jump on the bandwagon as you rightly put it.

Micks not a solid defender, he's not as bad as some people make out though, the same goes for Caldwell IMO.
The problem i see is that they are a bad partnership. They are rank rotten together.

Not having a go mate, but your talking * there IMO.

WGS took a massive dunt to his street cred in paying off Gravesen & Virgo. How's that for an admission of failure?
He's sold Sno & Donati ain't getting any sniff anytime soon.

WGS brought back Maloney & didn't want him to go in the 1st place.

He makes mistakes everyone does, but he made big changes today, dropped big players & changed his tactics in switching Robbo/Brown.

I'm not a massive WGS or Mick fan in particular, but Mick will be dropped if the manager believes he should be - just look at Hartley, McGeady, Naka & Hinkle today.

Talking *, you are.

Kind of agree with Lubo I honestly think collectively they are rank, however for me in particular Caldwell should not be anywhere near our back 4 he is a liability.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Again this season we see the same poor defending, that we have seen at the start of each of the last three. The common factor here is no Bobo, we struggle to keep clean sheets. 1st season the big man was dropped then brought back to shore up a leaky defence, played almost every game. Season 2 again started without him and again we shipped goals, brought him back until Xmas and the team was solid, he injured himself and from January onwards the team performed poorly, however the league was won by Xmas, thanks in part to Bobo´s contribution. Season 3 again no Bobo and again we leaked goals, in fact we went 15 straight without a clean sheet. After trying everyone but Bobo WGS was left with no choice but to throw him in. Two hugely important clean sheets later the big man was on a plane to play in the African cup of nations. Thankfully the team got their act together, Bobo´s presence may have been limited but without those two clean sheets we were unlikely to go on to win the league.

My point is each time Bobo played with Mick then Mick could concentrate on his job, instead of covering for his partners gaffs, he looked a somewhat assured defender with Bobo beside him.

For me none of the two of them a are good enough but Caldwell is the common denominator, there has been three occasions when he has been out of the team that have coincided in better defensive performances. Mick has his limitations but makes far fewer costly mistakes. After all it was Caldwell who was at fault for both goals today, and he could have cost us two more.

Elboy, no offence but its now a pointless debate, bobo isn't gettin a game full stop.
We have Loovens £3m and looks the part. We have O'dae who looks good enough to play for Man U. if given the chance, a great prospect.
So why doesn't Gordi choose one of his nancy bhoys at CH and pair him with one of these guys?

It was Wilson last week, Hinkel the week before, Caldwell, was it? the week before that. Then Brown, Hartley.

Every week, a player gets a bashing as if he's been * all his life and people are wondering how he's in the Celtic team. Some of you wouldnt manage to open a bag of crisps!

I would like to see more of Loovens but Im not sure he will turn out to be the solid all rounder we are hoping for. He played in the championship for Cardiff for a good few seasons and not once did any of the premiership teams to my knowledge come in for him, not even the smaller sides like Bolton etc so I might wonder if he is as good as we hope he is. Ive never really heard rave reviews of him but the cardiff fans definately loved him.

I just sometimes think there is too much pressure on McManus as captain to be outstanding every game and thats just not gonna happen. I love his tackling and determination but I feel he may need a rest. Just seems to have played far too much without a chance to recharge.

I know mate Bobo has no chance, that wasn´t my point though.

I was trying to point out that when Caldwell is replaced by a decent CB Mick performs better, there are 3 presidents that show this to be true, I was just pointing them out.

O'Dea could play for Man United? Thats the most laughable comment I've heard in a while. Is that in an injury crisis or something??
