Matt O'Riley

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by Notorious, Jan 20, 2022.

  1. I don't think he was as bad as some say. I think his desire to win clouded his judgement and made him make some bad decisions.
    Almost tried too hard

    A poor man's Rogic.

I thought it was a mixed bag from him tonight.

  7. His passing and decision making got worse as the game went on. Probably due to tiredness. Him and Hatate couldn’t pass water tonight.

Sums it all up really, frustration at what could have been in pretty much every game.

  9. It was his passing for me overall..

Lost count at how many time's he lost it carelessly or over it it when we were in dangerous area's in their final third..

I rate him so expect a lot more when he's on it. He majorly disappointed me..

We certainly miss Tam's composure and experience atm that's for sure.

  10. I don’t think Rogic could play defensive midfield like he has been to anywhere near the same level.

  11. Oh * no, never in a million years should anyone ever play Tam Rogic as defensive midfield. I'm meaning his experience and composure in front of goal and in the box has been missed.

  12. Thought he was ok tonight, although his shooting is infuriating. At the end of the day he’s the one who’s paid thousands every week to kick a ball, however how he thinks he’ll score by passing it at the near post, with the inside of his foot from 25+ yards is beyond me.

If he’s unable to put his laces through the ball then he shouldn’t be shooting from that far out.

  13. unlucky not to score tonight but its clear as day he's not a defensive/holding midfielder why are we playing him as one, is none of the other players capable of that? it it just CalMac.

  14. Ange says we need a technical quick thinking player in there, which Matt certainly is. If only his body could move as fast as his mind.

That's what makes Cal so hard to replace, he's technical, clever, thinks fast, moves fast, can drive forward in attack, can defend when needed, can read the game, dictate our play and set the tempo and lead the team. We might have a couple of players who can do bits of that but a player who can do it all? We are lucky we have one never mind two.

  16. 100%. CalMac is irreplaceable, especially in Ange's system.

He was at it at the weekend too.

For me he's been poor this season. Still not scored either despite playing the majority of games at 8. I'd be expecting 6-10 goals and the same in assists from someone like him.

Missed the first 30 mins tonight, but I thought he was okay. Constantly involved and had some good moments.

Too many slack passes though and stupid wee flicks when he could bring the ball down and move it on.

  19. O’Riley is stiffer than his dance moves in the 6. He’s ok domestically but he literally can’t see over his shoulder, so can’t take the ball and move in tight spaces. A passenger all too much lately and that’s why we are getting forced back under coordinated presses.

I feel since the WC became his focus this year and along with press about moves to the premier league, he’s truly lost sight of what will get him there, is good form.
