O'Riley is a clever and career focussed guy so I can't see him spitting the dummy, he'll know that if he doesn't get his move this year his best option will be to show potential buyers his professionalism and by performing at his best for us.

He has 8 CL games in which to really shine and, probably more importantly in his eyes, he has a real opportunity now to get into the national team and cement his place there as I somehow doubt Morten Wieghorst will be as judgemental about a player smashing it in the SPFL as their last manager was.

So no, I doubt his value will drop this year if he stays.

Without these 8 CL games I don't think we would have had any chance of keeping him.

Hoping we match his ambitions buy getting 2 or 3 more quality players in.

Remember with Juranovic they promised he could go after the world cup and then we got his replacement in before he left.

If we do manage to keep him which is a big IF we should be giving him a new contract

Don't even need to extend it. Just up his wage as a thanks.

He's under contract, so we're not obliged to accept any offer. Matt's professional enough to know his time will come.

    https://football-italia.net/celtic-new-demands-oriley-atalanta-samardzic/

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Celtic have further raised their asking price for Matt O’Riley, pushing Atalanta to sign Lazar Samardzic instead

Atalanta have reached an agreement to sign Samardzic from Udinese and the Serbia international has already arrived in Bergamo to undergo medical tests and sign a contract until 2028 with an option for a further campaign.

It is no secret that Atalanta’s priority for the attacking midfield role was Denmark international O’Riley, but after weeks of negotiations with Celtic, La Dea decided to drop the 23-year-old.

According to Gazzetta, the Scottish club recently raised their economic demands for O’Riley, asking for €30m plus add-ons.

Any other players I'd be worried he'd kick up fuss but Matt's far too professional for that. My worry with him would be how it might affect his focus, like with the Atletico saga. He's a really cerebral guy and sometimes I think his mind is his own worst enemy.

Anyway, it'd be * unreal if he stayed, even until January.

Brutally honest Brendan Rodgers admits he still doesn't know if Matt O’Riley will be a Celtic player at the end of the window amid an on-air grilling over the midfielder's future.

Atalanta have launched a series of bids in an attempt to tempt the Scottish Premiership champions into selling their star man - but reports in Italy have claimed the Serie A side have admitted defeat in their pursuit of the 23-year-old after snapping up Udinese's Serbia international Lazar Samardzic. The Europa League winners saw five offers turfed out of Celtic Park – with the final in the region of £23million failing to move the hardline Celtic stance.

But with the likes of Brighton, Bournemouth, Atletico Madrid and Inter also said to have shown an interest in the Danish international, it looks unlikely that the Italians will be the last to test the Hoops resolve this summer. But following the full-time whistle in the Premier Sports Cup win over Hibs, boss Rodgers refused to be nailed down on O'Riley's long-term Parkhead future.

Asked if he expects O'Riley to be a Celtic player by the end of the transfer window, Rodgers told the Premier Sports panel: "I don't know is the honest answer. You see with him that he is an incredibly talented player

"There is a value we have for him, and if that's not met he will be here - it's as simple as that. He is really happy here, but it has to be something that draws him away.

I am not overthinking it. We all know the model here at Celtic - players will improve and they will get to a level that get beyond, not the club, but in terms of the financial salary. But until that comes we continue to work with him."

Still have a feeling he may go. I am not buying we would have turned down a £20m+ bid if we weren’t expecting someone to come in with more.

Not sure it will be but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Brighton. They are going to sell Gilmour and started Milner at Centre midfield yesterday.

I think so too. We are definitely hinging on an EPL side coming in.

Teams on the continent won't pay what we want.

Think that’s fair enough from Rodgers. If he goes, I think it will only be to a team that have European football of some sort next season.

He would be a good fit at Brighton definitely. They don’t have European football though. So when you have been linked to Atalanta, Inter & Atletico, will Brighton be as attractive to O’Riley? I’m not sure they will.

Decent EPL side playing against the best players in the world in EPL more money in wages and potential even bigger move from there what’s not attractive about that move?

Wonder if we have gentleman's agreement with Brighton for past week that when they dump gilmour they will give us set amount for oriley. The way we upped the price on Atalanta certainly indicate something is defo brewing. Also the way the Brighton link was reported last week seemed Brighton were very much engaging with the club regarding the fee rather than peppering us with low man offers. I've no doubt oriley is a great guy and professional but he seems at ease with all this too.. something is definitely happening here
