Celtic would appear to have been priced out of a move for Marc-Antoine Fortune, after it was announced that French club Nancy had already accepted 3 bids from English Premier League sides.
The fee's are reported to have been in excess of the 4m euro mark, with one believed to be approaching 5m euros.
Wanted: Fortune being chased North and South of the border
Despite interest from England, Fortune's agent had previously hinted he would turn down a more lucrative financial package to be reunited with Tony Mowbray - who he played under for the last half of the season at West Bromwich Albion.
First-team coach Peter Grant has gone on record to confirm Celtic's interest, and has also spoken of his admiration for the 27 year-old striker.
"Marco is a quality player and we were very impressed by just how well he did for us last season.
"People say he didn't have a fantastic scoring record. But look at the goals from midfield after he came in.
"The goals the other boys scored because of the way he played was phenomenal.
"Marco had a great ethic about him in his training as well as his playing. He was a privilege to work with."
Celtic may be able to convince the player to snub the Premiership in favour of a move to Glasgow, but they will first have to match the money put on the table by the English sides. Hull have been confirmed as one of the clubs, with the other two accepted bids rumoured to have been from Fulham, Portsmouth or newly-promoted Wolves.
